Laptop power problem?

Hi all, hoping you can help. I've been getting a fatal error message every time I switch the laptop on, it says 'toshiba power saver' fatal message, and that the programme's been cancelled. Tonight it's started switching itself on then taking a few attempts to reboot. Is this a death warning, or is there something I can do to get it fixed? PC world charge £140 just to look at laptops, never mind do anything to them, which I can't afford in case it's dead money and there's nothing they can do. I can't really afford a new one, but I should be able to get a new one through disabled students allowance (if I wasn't disabled I'd just get the computer allowance). My next OU course is all computer based, so I need a working computer in the next few weeks, that'll last until I can get a new one sorted, but I don't know how long that'll take.
Any advice?

Thanks, that's brilliant.
Doing the 1-click thing now, lots of problems coming up, will it solve them for me or do I need to do more?
Thanks so much for all your help, you've saved me a fortune!Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
you get the option to fix them all at the end just choose that, its fixing a whole mass of junk thats built up over time as stuffs been installed/uninstalled etc.
That power message seems to be a continual problem with ToshibasEx forum ambassador

Yeah, it's second hand and I got it from dad because it only works plugged in, the battery doesn't last long at all. I'm assuming this download won't solve that though? Computer companies must make a fortune from technophobes like me buying new when a download's all it needs.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0
