Hi Guys
I'm very out of date on phone tariffs so was hoping someone could help me.
I was trying to find the best tariff for someone who doesnt use the phone much (about 50mins a month, sometimes not even that + a few texts), i'm thinking PAYG but theres so much choice that i'm very confused..

i am not totally clued up on phones either i am in process of looking for a new one myself. my boyf uses vodaphone pay as you go. he puts 10 pounds a month in his phone and gets 100 mins and 300 txts for that . he very rarely uses all the txts but does use the call time.
there is so much choice . it confuses me . hopefully someone who is better will tell you more.
dora xLife should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming ~ WOO HOO what a ride!0 -
How much are you willing to pay per month in top ups?Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
Tesco Payg Lite Tariff http://www.tesco.com/mobilenetwork/payasyougo.aspx?page=84 (piggy backing on o2) Minimum top up as and when required £10.
Or
Asda Payg = http://www.asda-mobile.com/ (Piggybacking on Vodafone) Minimum top up as and when required £5.
Both charge 8p a min for any network calls and 4p for texts.
Tesco is normally cheaper for ngn calls. Asda is cheaper for browsing.0 -
Note that with Tesco you'll get clubcard points for topping up, and you can use clubcard vouchers to double up to top-up your phone. So if you don't use the Internet, and your O2 reception is decent, then you should probably choose Tesco.
Additionally you can get a free Tesco SIM with £4.20 cashback from Cashback Kings, whereas an ASDA SIM costs 47p

Tesco Lite looks good as I probably wont need to top up frequently, £10 may last 3 months, also topping up via clubcard points sounds good as I got loads spare!0

One contract option that might be worth light users considering:
Orange 5 - you get 50 texts and 50 minutes each month
36 month contract at £5 a month
£30 quidco cashback available
free phone on sign up and free phone again after 18 months
sell both phones on ebay (approx £20 to £30 ebay value)
actual cost per month after quidco and phone sales = £2.50 to £3 a month.0 -
Another option is Family Mobile via Ikea, top ups can be made online, calls 9p a min, texts are 6p.
Choose your own number from those available.

Does anyone who uses Tesco PAYG Lite know if you have to top up a minimum every month or if your credit expires0
-
No minimum topup.
Most networks operate a policy that if you don't make a call/text often enough (usually 6 months) then your number will be disconnected and credit will be gone. I don't know what Tesco's policy is on this, but I imagine it's 6 months (and the call might not have to be charged, I know on Orange calling to check your balance is fine). Other than that, credit lasts forever.0
