What if our Landlord pays BT?

Hi,
After moving into a new build Apartment our Landlord very kindly sugested that on the main phone line to the building he still had an existing contract with BT, which included unlimited internet access in which he had to pay whatever, so he said "hey what I'll do is set my router up in your apartment and you can have free internet until the end of my contract" (we know him btw lol!) great!
but now in the last month he hasn't paid his bill and we've been cut off! Of course me and my partner want to get our own internet, not really bothered about landline. So we think theres no point worrying about being cut off as it's nearly time for us to take out our own anyway.
What do we need to do now though?? Does the landlord have to pay his bill, cancel his contract and we have to get re-connected? I'm really confused at what steps we need to take, and he is pretty hard to get hold of.
Your advice is much appreciated
Steve
