Orange - No 3G?

Basically my friend and I are both on Orange and have identical handsets (Blackberry Bold). I got mine just over a week ago.

We put our phones next to each other and he gets full 3G signal and I get about 2 or 3 bars on GPRS. I don't ever seem to get 3G no matter where I am.

When I took out the contract they put the wrong data plan onto my account so I've only had BB services for a couple of days now. When I phoned and asked them why my friend gets 3G and I don't she said as my services hadn't been active very long to give it a few days and it may sort itself out, however it hasn't. She also said nothing will be wrong with the handset as I can get onto the network etc..

It's fine while i'm at home as I have WiFi but when out and about it takes ages to send/receive emails, browse the net etc.. I am in a 3G/HSDPA area as I had it on my last SE.

Is there anything Orange can do? As I'm miffed as to how my friend can get 3G but I can't, when we have same network and phone.

Just thought i'd ask on here before I call them again.

edit - also is it possible this sim card may not be compatible with 3G? I'm using the same sim I had in my old c902.
This thread has me so pumped, I headbutted my dog and we both screamed.

  • You may only have a 2g sim, unlikely if you were using a c902 but check with Orange, they'll tell you. Also you might have your handset locked onto 2g mode, I think on the Bold its somewhere in the connectivity menu, the handset needs to be set to dual mode or automatic. If everything is as it should be there, then try a 2 way sim swap with your mate, that'll narrow it down to the handset or the sim

Yeah handset is set to automatic. I have a 3G sim being sent out tomorrow so hopefully that will fix it! Only took me 5 calls for someone to finally send me one.

    Thanks for the reply

edited to say new 3G simcard has sorted it!
