BT BB to ?

Hiya,

Currently have phone and broadband with BT costing us monthly:

1 MB with 20 GB - 21.26
Phone Line 9.35
Last months calls costing 7.00
Last months VAT 6.70

Total Bill 44.95

Phoned BT today to see if they would give a better offer was told that the line I have can only take 1 MB and no more and there are no better offers for this.

Looking about for a BB and Phone deal, suggestions anyone?

I know i can save about £10 p/m but a lot of the places only have 5GB and need more then this with my partners xbox 360 downloads lol

Only starting out on this morning saving thing so although seen a few deals but I am still worrying about changing!!

save £7 a month by migrating from BT BB (site says its £26.99 for 20GB), to zazizam's 1mb with phone option for £19.99 inc VAT (since it looks like your trying to exclude it above... or £17.01 ex VAT if your prefer) a month - it is unlimited, so you would be ok there

i migrated ages ago from virgin, and it was painless - I just havent looked back yet.... and its been a long time since that day, and i have no complaints

Sadly you'll be only able to get 1mb as a maximum speed even if you migrate to another ISP

Not necessarily. With the introduction of BTw IPstream Max, it is more than likely possible to get a faster speed service.

Use the BTw ADSL Availability Checker to check what your line should support.

No, it is correct. If they can only get a top speed of 1mb now on there existing line, ADSL Max wont give it that extra juice. If they've been told her line is at a top rate already then i can only assume its either the quality of the line or the distance from the exchange.

Even tho it'll come up on the checker that you can, its very if's and but's of whether it'll give it the bigger speed push.

I disagree - as the BTw checker is conservative to begin with anyway - so should easily be achievable.

If the OP posts the line stats from the router/modem currently connected, I can give a rough idea of the speeds possible.

Just because BT say no, doesn't really mean a definite no - their call centre isn't the greatest for giving accurate advice.

i disagree too - as adslmax's technology is different, as it is rate adaptive (or something like that) - I am told I can get upto 3.5mb, up from a maximum of 1mb

:j bt told my friend what seemed like an age ago that he could only get 1mb when they up-graded to 2mb this was because of the distance from him to the exchange box, he's jumped to talktalk and they say he should get a 6.5mb speed so I'd say jump ship everyone and go with talktalk as soon as my contract is up I'll be off to talktalk too!!! THANKS TO MARTIN, T.

Pls be nice to all MSer's

its all down to adslmax... talktalk is not the only provider - anyone isp offering upto 8mb will provide the same speed... you can check exactly what you can and cant get, at https://www.bt.com/broadband - but the speed is no way guarenteed, as it depends on a number of factors

I can confirm that a line previously only able to achieve 1 MB due to distance from exchange, etc can achieve 3 MB after the upgrade.

I registered with BT following advice from this site to be notified and I got an email from BT two weeks ago that said that I could move to a maximum of 3MB at no extra charge. I filled in the details and the service started on Mon 8 May - it takes about 10 days to ramp up I'm reliably told, but it is definitely getting faster.
