Just wondering what everyone's favourite meals were? I'm trying to lose weight, but find it so difficult to stand and cook for long periods of time, and when I get home 98% of the time I'm too tired to do anything.
I think perhaps we should try and cook a few different things at the weekend and then freeze them. So nothing complicated, as I can't stand for long or have the energy for it.
So any ideas please? I'm just ordering on Tescos now!
I'm going to try and make a bolognese type dish and minestone soup, so don't need those recipes! I make stews and soups a lot.
How do people make a curry base that's healthy please? I guess there is doing it with low fat natural yogurt or fromage frais, but it never quite tastes the same!

Stir frys? Re the standing - have you tried a perching stool? I have one but I'm no great ad as it tends to stay in the corner. (Just not enough space).
Curry base (made one tonight) used Greek yogurt - not as 'sharp' as plain and not as loaded as d.cream.
I also rely on the Magimix daily, it makes bread, grates and chops. I've ordered a spice grinding thingie from amazon as I cant use the pestle and I don't want the Magimix to smell of spices.

I'm on the waiting list for an OT assessment, and a perching stall was something mentioned.
Ah thanks for the greek yogurt tip!

Hello Jazabelle,
Have a look at the Money saving Old Style, forum board.
They have lots of money saving and healthy food ideas.

Ramas - I've put on weight through not being able to exercise due to my disabilities. Just as no, I did not skip along to the tribunal building as you inferred in the other thread. Any other judgements you wish to make?
Obviously I am trying to eat healthily - hence this thread! There is nothing wrong with a low fat curry base - there are lots of alternatives for things, which is what I'm asking about. And I AM making that choice - I've lost almost two and a half stone, and am still trying.
Thanks very much munchings! I will go and check it out."There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something better tomorrow." - Orison Swett Marden0 -
What is unhealthy about a bit of curry and some boiled rice? The OP didn't say they were pouring it over a plate of chips!
You don't need to make a curry laden with ghee and cream but perhaps you aren't aware of this. I'm sure someone will let you have a recipe......0 -
Yeah exactly Waggle Dancer. I am on the Slimming World diet, and low fat natural yogurt is completely free, so with some spices, chicken, veggies and rice - it would be a totally free meal. I was just asking if anyone knew of another base that was similar. I don't remember the last time I had a curry, it's not like I eat it every night!
Just to add - I mean free in terms of syns, not money!"There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something better tomorrow." - Orison Swett Marden0 -
Do you have a slow cooker? We would starve to death if we didnt, if Im having a bad day I can cook a meal without burning the house down :rotfl:
I do soups, stews, roast, curries all sorts really and freeze what we dont eat (Not that that happens much, my lot have hollow legs:rolleyes:)0 -
Yes I do have one.
Also a pressure cooker which I use a lot more, but it died today
Love to do stews and soups. Should make a curry in my slow cooker - thanks for the tip!"There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something better tomorrow." - Orison Swett Marden0 -
Ive made curry in mine, if I really cant be bothered I chuck in the meat with low fat ready made curry sauce then ignore it until its ready. You can stick extra veg in too but if I did my kids would think I was trying to kill them:rolleyes:0

Try using some Quorn for curries or anything else - it is very low in fat and calories and you can have a lot of it in comparison to meat/chicken
Can highly recommend a slow cooker - great invention.0
