nasty spam text to avoid!!

Just thought I'd start this on here in the hope that you will all spread the message or at least know where to post this Nationwide! Im thinking that some poor child or elderly person will have valuable pennies taken from them in an hour of need!...

My poor old mum just received a text along the lines of 'YOUR OPERATOR LOGO WILL BE THE NEXT TEXT, SAVE IT TO YOUR PHONE IMMEDIATELY.'

As she is relatively new to technology (of any sort) she saved it, as instructed, as she didnt know what it meant. She then got another 2 and did the same - saved them. She eventually thought that it must be one of us muckng her around or that one of her grandchildren had sent her something. Nope. In all, each saved text cost her £2.50 - a total of £7.50 and no operator logo forthcoming! And no, before anyone asks, she didnt do it accidentally - she isnt WAP enabled.

She reported it to 02 but they said there is nothing they can do. So BEWARE!!

She has now deleted them but thinks they come from a number similar to 6090.

I think it goes without saying that people are grateful.

However, I doubt that we would want to have to check 50+ responses to find that they were all saying 'thank you'...

Thank you jazzeeeee5, my dad can't deal with any kind of text messaging or even voicemail. I must tell him about this as he would be bound to save it until he could ask me about it.

fair enough i just feel that enough people read the posts and maybe take the info on board without responding to it! as in a little thank you, if i think the info is useful i always thank them...
