"I'm confused , the statement cut off is on the same day/date every month, so not sure why you need to wait for a statement to get some payment in, also you can log onto your account online, I pay my statement before it even arrives in the post. I don't think waiting for red reminders etc is the way to keep a healthy credit record."
Actually this is not true with Barclaycard. The payment due date is a moveable window of around 10 days each month. They can and do shift it around all the time without notice, to catch you out so you are late with a payment and they can charge interest and fine you accordingly.
BC is quite open that it does this deliberately with customers who clear their balance every month, because basically they are not profitable for them.
Also just to add, I got caught out with making a Barclaycard payment by post a couple of years ago during a postal strike. It arrived after the due date and I was fined and charged interest. I phoned Barclaycard to say I had paid it well in advance, as I always did and they agreed to take the postal strike into account and removed the late payment charge. They also promised they would remove the late payment "flag" on my account. I requested, and got, confirmation in writing that they had done this.
A year later I phoned to ask why I had not received notice of a particular promotion they were running and the person in the call centre (by now in India) looked on my account and said it was because I had made a late payment a year earlier. I don't believe this but what is clear is that the late payment flag had not been removed even though they had credited me with paying on time and written to confirm the late payment flag had been removed. In fact they had done nothing of the sort. Nowadays I pay on line.0 -
You've quoted a post about statement dates and then gone on to talk about payment due dates.DUTR wrote:I'm confused , the statement cut off is on the same day/date every month, so not sure why you need to wait for a statement to get some payment in, also you can log onto your account online, I pay my statement before it even arrives in the post. The statement date is the same date each and every month...even with Barclaycard. Isn't it?0 -
Agree with the moving target comment for Barclaycard payment dates. I pay by DD so it doesn't bother me in the slightest, but my statements vary somewhere between the 9th and 19th of every month!Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

Hi
I spoke to customer services this morning who have reinstated my 0% promotion but in regards to the credit limit and a late payment mark on my credit file I would have to write to Customer Loyalty who did say that there is something in place for late payments due to the postal strike.
I now have to write to Loyalty to sort out now about the drop in my credit limit (to get that back up) and also taking off my late payment off my credit file (cheeky cheeky !!) I am in the process now of drafting a letter to Barclaycard but am pretty rubbish at writing letters.
Is there any templates or does anybody have any suggestions..
Many Thanks

Sorry anyone, Gotta get this letter drafted..
Many Thanks0 -
List your chief concerns: 1) drop in credit limit 2) late payment mark on credit files.
Then state what you would like done about it.
Use as few words as necessary and you'll be fine.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
Para 1: Introduction - tell them what's happened.
Para 2: What you've already been told verbally* (in bullets), ie you were told that:
* the £12 fee would be reversed
* no late payment marker would appear on your CRA file
* the 0% promotion would not be affected
Para 3: Ask them to confirm (you then have it in writing) what you were verbally told will actually happen, or not, as the case may be.
Para 4: Ask them to re-instate the original credit limit.
Para 5: Remind them you now have a DD set up so this won't happen again.
Para 5: Thank them in advance, and let them know you're looking forward to a favourable outcome.
Keep it clear and concise...no more than one side of A4.
And if it's Dear Sirs, it's Yours faithfully
* It would help if you could say who told you this, and when (ie time and date).0 -
Brillant, Thank you What are the chances do you think of getting this overturned ??0
