the regulator set the wheels in motion
2003 RM loses its monopoly(long before its required by Europe or any other postal operator) but still has to deliver under the universal service obligation and deliver competitors mail for a set price
2006 fully opened market means competitors can collect sort and deliver mail
however so far all still use RM's system to get mail delivered
so RM still has its USO in place, still delivers competitors mail but is not allowed to undercut them for large business accounts
RM can make 1 tender
if they are cheaper than a competitor then the competitor can undercut RM.
RM cannot undercut that competitor0 -
Ok, So can Royal Mail refuse to deliver the mail from these competitors.0

that doesnt sound like a fair competative market to me, and does not make logic business sense,
so what ever happens companies know dam well that they can get a cheaper quote/price elsewhere, but yet you are actually delivering their mail.... i see some fat cat sitting in an office just number crunching and contract writting, without even walking to collect/deliver a letter, they only thing they are doing is walking straight to the bank££££££££££££Work to live= not live to work0 -
Can someone merge these 2 similar threads about RM together please.0

well the idea was companies got a foot in the door then started delivering their own mail
as you can see it hasn't happened
even if companies start deliveries they are not tied to the USO right now (AFAIK) so could just deliver to the central areas of big cities and leave the rest
some companies stick with RM for the service (yes a shock i know) such as amazon who stuck (stick?) with RM after trying TNT for a while.
then you have the crazy scenario of government depts/councils using competitors as they are required to use the cheapest service
just look at all the mail you get at how much has competitors logos on them0 -

never, that would be willful delay (a sackable offense for posties) and result in a massive fine from the regulator
in fact on Saturdays there is a legacy agreement posties can leave mailsort (RM's cheapest service) letters as Saturdays are usually an earlier finish
many competitors send DSA for delivery on a Saturday as their customers like it as theres more chance of potential customers/customers reading the mail.
so Saturdays have got gradually busier and busier with DSA mail0 -

thanks custardy i will keep an eye out for them
you said that some customers are requesting that certain mail is posted on saturdays, i presume that they are paying a premium price for this, as if we wanted a guarenteed saturday delivery, parcel or letter we would have to pay a hefty price for this service, or have they managed to wangled this at a cheap rate tooWork to live= not live to work0 -
Possibly, but since I have no idea which the other one is it's a bit tricky! Also depends where it is.a11waysindebt wrote: »Can someone merge these 2 similar threads about RM together please.Signature removed for peace of mind0
