I forgot to ask... did you find out what happened to the cat? Presumably the deceased hadn't been planning on eating this themselves...

I think you did the right thing, there is no point letting good food go to waste!

i honestly dont know, i think there were more than one cat, the old lady lived down stairs in the house for quite a few years, and the cats had the run of the house, and as you can imagine the upstairs wasnt very pleasant:eek:

she had home care twice a day, so i think the local authority must have taken care of that side of things.

oh please trikerchick find out what happened to cats! but can i just say - please tell the clearance guys to look for pet food cans - and let someone (like rspca ) know if there more than one or two as cats especially can go missing when owner dies. er - hate to say this but its true - just one or two cans may mean the deceased bought cat food to add to their meat intake. cat food is usually fit for human consumption and i do know of some pensioners who add it to stews. personally i think yeuckkkkk. but it does happen.

i honestly dont know how things work, but i know that if the local authorities are involved they do try and make sure all animals etc are taken care off.

it was a terraced house, so i should imagine they would have helped with the cats

I think you've done exactly the right thing, and if it makes you feel better then make a small donation to charity, I know any of my elderly family would be horrifed if good food was thrown in the bin, I had a char with my aunt aged 76 about this earlier and she said that she would rather it was used than dumped, she worked hard to fill her cupboards not the bin!
    Enjoy it.
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

I don't see any problem with making use of the food, much better than wasting perfectly good food. Some people are so squeamish about death, of course death is sad but its also the one thing you can guarantee will happen to ALL of us LOL!:rotfl:

I'm glad you made use of the food Trikerchick, but I would donate something to charity in return, poss Help the Aged?
  • i donate clothes shoes etc to a homeless drop in centre run by a biker back patch club that we know very well, so i will also give some of the food too, will give all the food with pull rings, and keep the tins of veg and chopped toms, as i can used these in casseroles etc,

its soooo right about some people being squeamish about death, especially the younger generation,
