Neighbours new extension

I posted on here about 3 months ago about our neighbours new extension, we only got told about it by chance when my parents went round there to ask them something. Anyway we had no letters from i suppose the council to inform us of this work so we could object, turns out because its only so many metres from their house they only need building regs. Well work commenced the beginning of August and everything is up, roof on etc, its only single storey and doesnt over look us or block any light out ( so no problems there), but when the work started the builders took about 3 of our fence panels down and a plastic roof ( we use it as a storage area for our wheelies and general garden stuff), anyway they said they were going to put the gate where the last remaining fence panel is now, meaning we've lost half our storage. To cut a long story short my parents now want the fence and roof put back as it was ( to me that only seems fair). And to top it all my mother goes to the hairdresser this morning to be told by her hairdresser that our neighbour was moaning to another of the stylist in the shop that her and her husband are having a dispute with the neighbours about the fence! Sorry about going about this but its really annoyed me, can anyone give me advice? Thanks. By the way at the moment the neighbours and my parents are talking but nothing has been mentioned about a dispute!!

Is the fence your property or your neighbours? You may need to check with the deeds to find out. If its yours, then your neighbours have to reinstate the fence exactly as it was.
The mention of the gate sounds a bit odd, do they have a right of way over your land? For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0 -
A gate is easily solved. You've always wanted a nice deep pond haven't you.
Look on the council website and look for applications under building control and planning. If there's nothing listed ring the nice man at the council first thing on monday and explain they're doing building work. He will come down and have a look.
They are very happy to do this.0 -
As previously mentioned you need to check your deeds to see who's land the fence is on and go from there.
The Citizens Advice Bureau can be very helpful with property disputes.
Good Luck.0 -

My father put the fence up about 10 yrs ago, i know its on the boundary but i'll have to get my dad to check the deeds. And as for the gate, they dont have a right of way over our land, my parents just wanted back where it originally was.0 -
If you neighbours don't have right of way onto your parents' property what purpose is the gate supposed to be serving?0

I don't understand how they were able to remove "your" plastic roof? Was it a lean-to and relying on the fence for support? Was the fence your property? If you can draw a diagram that would be useful, but as mentioned the deeds and plan would be essential if there is a dispute about who owns what.0

The fence is our property and the plastic roof is attached to our house and is attached to said fence.0 -
