Say NO to plastic bags

What about recycling plastic bags? Our local supermarket has a bin where we stick all our plastic bags. I only get them if I don't have any other means of carrying my shopping (I do have a reusable bag form Sainsbury's!):j Take That 23/12/2007:j :dance:0

we recycle all our excess bags at tesco.
one thing that does bother me is that co-op bags are biodegradable, so perfect for using in bins. why don't other supermarkets use biodegradable bags too, then even when they were used, the environmental impact would be lower?!:happyhear0 -
I try to avoid plastic bags.
I always carry a kalico bag.
If I am doing a big shop I use some old Sainsburys bags for life or a cardboard box.
Why do shop assistance try and put my fruit and veg in little plastic bags, including 1 cougette. If I wanted it in a bag I would of put it in a bag.
Why does this country not have a carrier bag tax like Ireland, 10p a bag I think. I think this would have a large impact on the use of plastic bags,Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent
79.5 coupons rolled over 4/75.5 coupons spent - using for secondhand purchases

I refuse plastic bags as well, there are always a couple of people that seem to be on commission to give you a bag though.
On numerous occasions I've bought just a loaf of bread on its own and the person behind the counter will start to get a plastic bag ready. I tell them that it's ok, I don't need a bag - I can just carry it.
'No it's alright, I'll put it in a bag for you'.
'It's fine, I can just carry it' (Really, it's ONE loaf of bread)
'I'll pop it in a bag for you anyway.'

I think big supermarkets should reuse carrier bags, it would seem logical. Instead of recycling banks, they could just use the bags again at the checkouts. Perhaps there's issues with hygiene, who knows?

I keep 3 medium sized cardboard boxes in my boot, they were free from the supermarket, keep the boot nice and tidy (stop things sliding about) and when I go to the supermarket, I take 2 in with me, they fit perfectly in the trolley and I use them instead of carrier bags trolley to car, car to house etc etc.
I think that there should be a tax on carrier bags (although this would probably get passed on to ALL customers) so maybe just a discount for non carrier bag users!

Maybe I should start sewing some calico bags and handing them out at uni - so many students here buying stuff from the student shop and just chucking their bags all over the place. No bags please, we're green

Or why not just charge for carrier bags like Aldi does? When Aldi opened near me I noticed it wasn't long before everyone was taking their own bag along.0 -
I had a bag for life till it wore out! Did not last that long to be honest.
I have scince got a lakeland shopper that I kep in my hand bag. takes up little room and is always handy!
In Primark, I (as always) said, can I just put these items into my bag? I was told quite abruptly that i HAD to take thier bags. I was too rushed to take the point any further.
Are there other shops that refuse to let you put in your shopping that you paid for, to be put in your own bags??0 -
I've experienced this too in Primark, very odd attitude.0

Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys etc will never do this. It would "inconvienience their customers too much". People expect it at Aldi because its cheap and nasty.
It needs to be forced onto them or they'll just sit back and ignore it whilst counting their millions!!!
