OS Daily Thread - Saturday 19th September

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Saturday 19th September. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning all
Lovely song to listen to - bit of a romantic one and despite the artist being rather like Marmite, just enjoy the lyrics and melody... HERE. And don't worry, after the first 20 secs there are no more shots of the artist, just romantic images... :rotfl::rotfl:
Mioliere - those 400 yr old cobbles sound amazing and your place sounds just great, you must be very happy with how it is all going.

Topher - nice to see you posting again and congrats on your marriage
Gerturdeanna - good luck with the exam today
Thriftlady - they are repeating Strictly this afternoon at 1500 on BBC2 so your daughter can see the end!
Sunnyday - yes we have been looking since March but due to my problems there are only about three cars that are suitable and they are beyond our price range so we are stuck right now. That is the problem with not having any savings to speak of.
Noahs - Oh hon I am so sorry you feel so poorly.
Pippa - thank you for those kind words. Truth is, if I dump my loving partner of 14 yrs then she will probably welcome me back into the family, but I resent having to choose and will not do so. He did something she cannot forgive but I can, and did!
Jayward - hugs honey
FairyE hope you get things sorted at work....you certainly don't need the stress
AJMoney - thank you so much. It was really nice of you to post and I hope that your OHs boys contact him one day when they are older. I traced my father 10 yrs ago. He walked out on us when I was 8 and we never heard from him. However I was curious and we now have a relationship.
Molly - That is unforgivable of them, and I am so sorry you are so frustrated by them.

Ok, OT here I know but I thoroughly enjoyed Strictly last night though hadn't heard of half the 'stars'. Still I guess they will grow on me. I missed Arlene - it is typical of the BBC and TV in general that older ladies are pensioned off and pretty girls put in their place while old wrinkly guys carry on regardless! Alisha Dixon might be pretty but she knows very little about dancing and is all fluff and no substance compared to Arlene.
Sorry, rant over!
My OS-iness today will be some baking (hopefully) if the weather is bad or gardening if it isn't. My Godson came up and painted all our garden walls nice and white so it all looks fresh and clean. Picked all the tomatoes off my two big plants that have blight so the unblemished ones can carry on ripening on the window sill. Luckily the four tumbling plants are blight-free which is great as they are covered in fruit. I also have my first red peppers which is really exciting as I have been harvesting green ones for weeks.
Have been enjoying a little book I bought from Amazon with vouchers - One pot recipes. There are some lovely things in there and I fancy trying the meatball casserole using turkey mince first.
Hope your weekend starts well. Warm gentle
for anyone who wants one!

Good morning Diva and all who follow
Well, we got back yesterday from a few days away at Elveden Forest. It was a lovely break, very relaxing and great fun. DDs did a good job of keeping the house tidy too.
Anyway, back to routine now. OS plans for today - freeze a few blackberries we picked yesterday evening, meal plan and shop for the week.
DD1 moves into her uni house today as she has work placement next week. Will have to chase up her loan application next week as well as she seems to be one of the many that has not heard anything yet.
Anyway, I am way behind with things on here so hope all is well, (((hugs))) if not.
Will look in and catch up later.

Morning.
Weekend off for me. I must get on with some painting before the weather turns again. There is honey to extract and other jobs too. Life should be simpler.
The desktop gave up the ghost yesterday. Chap at the repair shop said the mother board had gone, so need to shop about for a new one. Seems he can save all my files and transfer them, so that is not a bad thing. I guess it lasted 6 years and that is not too bad is it? Cost £1000 back in 2003. I could get a package now for £400. Can't get used to the laptop...
Went Tesco last night. Some good offers about, but they also had a lot of empty shelves, so it makes it hard when you can't get half your shopping.
Fresh chickens £2 each and butter 40p pack are 2 deals worth going for on their own.
Well, have a good dayNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning everyone
Been struggling for content last couple of days, so just read through.
Lovely start to the day MSD - and I like the singer too.
One or two not so good NPM, P-Pin, Jackie-0's frustration, and H-J hope you are OK now, and others I omitted.
N9eav - if you attach your screen and keyboard/mouse to your laptop on a desk, then it works like a desktop.
Did some baking on Thursday, made some cookies, tea cakes, and muffins, cookies were great others not totally successful but all edible. Went to town yesterday, but didn't find much to buy.
Today we are taking our great neice to York for the day, she is doing Vikings at school so are taking her to the Jorvik museum and a look around York, think we will use the McCarthur Glen Park & Ride and take advantage of DH's new bus pass, he will get cheaper access into museums too:T. Plus found a voucher for free child with full paying adult (me);). I will forget OS and let her choose where she wants to go for lunch as an extra treat.
Well the autumn weather is getting to us so have decided that we will go back to Spain for a couple of months departing maybe next Sunday, not exactly sure yet as we drive so don't have to plan too far in advance and hope to meet up with DS + GF and meet her family for a meal, on the way to Dover, DS+GF sorting this weekend, he is moving up to London to start his new job (the one he had the interviews for in July) on Monday, he is very excited. Just checked the company web site and they have 2 pages of career opportunities even in this climate so hope it is good for him, they say they look at rapid advancement. It will mean they can see each other without the travelling, and more often, and he is going to share a house his friend is just buying so looking good all around for him.
Have a good day, take care.

Goodmorning,
Thanks for the kind comments and pms. I am much calmer now although I had a terrible night which was a direct result of stress. My union rep emailed last night as she written the letter and very good it is too!!!
Well a quiet day for me. My Tesco shop is coming this morning.
Have a lovely weekend,
MollyI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Morning everyone.
Another disburbed night here at Chez BitsyDS has pretty much wet the bed every night this week, last night was no exception. this appears to have coincided with him starting nursery although he's not showing any signs of being stressed about going (which is what I was worried about). Not sure if it's just a question of him being soooooooo tired he's not feeling the sensation to go.....
Am getting sick of al the washing it's created TBH
I can't remember if I've updated you all on his assessment on Thursday but it went well. Hopefully we'll be seeing the same Speech therapist so she can get to know what DS is like. So far since he's been nearly 3 we've seen about 3-4 different community speech therapists each time and I end up having to explain the same thing every time
Anyway on to OS. I've got a large chicken in the oven as I type to pull apart and put meat towards various dishes. BM has to go on and a load of washing too. H will be putting stuff in the loft for storage as part of my decluttering earlier in the week. I'm popping to see a friend with the kids this morning so roll on the endless cups of coffee
NPM - really sorry to hear you've got piggy flu. Hope it passes quick for you (as I can't imagine how hard it must be looking after Noah whilst feeling so poorly. Am dreading us catching it and still trying to entertain my two )
Diva - Sorry but there is no way I can listen to Barry ManilowIt's bad enough my H is on a Nick Drake theme at the moment
Topher - Congrats on your nuptials, as another poster said more pics please?!!!! I love wedding photos!
Anyway off for a surf around the site.
Try and check back in later if I get chance as have busy weekend ahead.
Have a good weekend OS or not.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Morning all,
Not so nice weather wise today, looks a bit dull out there, although not raining yet. WM is on with whites, and another dark load to go in next.
I turned over in bed this morning, and felt something crunch in my neck, this happens quite often, so I have been popping pills this morning, I hate it when this happens, I cant do anything much, had trouble lifting my arms to put my hair up this morning :mad:.
Two viewings today, was supposed to be three, but the one who fell in love with my house during the week, has now fallen for something else and cancelled on me
Will have to have a good tidy round, hoover mop etc, and get dd to do her room.
DD is not off out with her dad today, he is working so she will stay with us, its the Goodwood revival close to us today, and all the roads get backed up for miles, so we need to avoid that area at all costs.
Will take little dog out for her walk later, tea tonight is baked camembert, with crusty bread and hm redcurrant jelly, nice and easy.
OH bought me a beautiful bunch of flowers yesterday lillys and gladioli (sp), they are lovely and really brighten the house up.
Donny, enjoy your day out, sounds great.
Hugs to those poorley ones, NPM and sistercas, hope you recover soon.
OK wm has finished, got to try and get it out on the line now with stiff back / neck
Have good days all xx
Edit: Diva, Bazza is not for me either, listinging to that might just have sent me over the edge this morning :rotfl::rotfl::D0 -
Morning all
Hubby has had his breakfast & been dropped at work, he still has a rather surprised expression on his face, I poured bleach down the loos & left the loo brushes in to soak, hubby plonked himself down & then leapt up with alacrity & a surprised expression on his face!!!
WM & DW are on & I think I'll blitz the living room today, nothing is getting done much here at the moment, yet again our Open Day took everyone by surprise & so work has been busy. One set of paperwork needed for yesterday was still being worked on at 4:45, I'm meant to leave at 3:30.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning all:j
Feeling much more jumpy this morning! Head is clear, throat is not too sore and shivering has stopped - yay!
MSD - yah, boo, sucks to all Manly Barilow (thanks Terry Wogan) haters. I will admit I luuuuruve his music. I think one of the strictly professionals looks the image of him (is his name Ian?) I agree with you about Arlene. I used to be a professional dancer and she was 'THE' choreographer you wanted to work for. Alesha knows nothing about dancing except how nervous the contestants were feeling. She couldn't say anything constructive at all. The boxer was a bit disappointing but I love the Oxo mum!!!!! (could she be the new John Sargeant?)
Kjsam - we love going to Elveden - (*sudden thought* - you do mean Center Parcs) I took the kids during the "summer" and the new waterskiing thing was a huge hit. We also love the jazz brunch at Hucks on a Sunday morning.
Once DD is up, we are going to visit Lily's new puppies this morning. Must also pop into the village and get veggies from the market plus a birthday gift for my best friend. We are going over to hers for a 'fire-pit' dinner tonight. Kids are going to camp in the garden, whilst the adults get the comfy beds!!!
OS-wise, have taken a neck fillet of 'our' lamb out of the freezer for the bbq, along with some YS swordfish steaks. Washed a load of the dogs soft toys last night so they are all hanging on the line by their ears (the toys, not the dogs). Hope the neighbours don't look over the fence - it looks hilarious!
Need to make some strawberry jam with 4 packs of YS strawbs from Mr. T's. Are the £2 chickens the happy ones? I can't think they can have been too happy at that price
Am desperate to plant some garlic and onions for next spring but with the house move only two weeks away, it's just not worth it. It will take me some time to dig the new beds and I don't think you can transplant garlic or onions easily, so may have to make do with the market this winter?
Have a good day everyone.
Lilli

Good morning
JackieO Congratulations to your DGS. I used to commute from Sittingbourne into Victoria, and it wasn't that bad - it was an extra hours sleep but on the train instead of in bed.
NPM Hope you feel better soon, and that Noah has a quiet weekend.
I didn't post yesterday as I had a day off. I updated my computer, read a bit, went and put diesel in the car, and just sort of mooched round the house.
We were going to go to the zoo today, as the weather forecast was good. Surprise - when we got up it was raining...hmph. We could still go, but ds wanted a picnic and it's too wet for that.
I need to make some more Twinks as ds takes one in his lunchbag most days. If we don't go to the zoo, I may ask him to help me to make some cakes. He enjoys baking. I have a small bit of ironing to do, and as usual, a lot of cleaning/dusting/whatever.
Take care all of you0 -
Just popping in briefly because we have a busy day getting ready for visitors tomorrow.
MSD - the house sounds better than it is at the moment! We have loads of work to do but can only concentrate on one thing at a time. If we think about the whole picture, it nearly drives us mad! One day, it will be lovely - but that day is not today!
(((Hugs))) to all the poorlies on here. Hope you all feel better soon.
I don't think I came on here yesterday; I was helping DH insulate the attic roof - what a horrid job that was and pretty mindnumbing, too, but he said it went a lot quicker with the two of us. We used a sort of foil bubble wrap which is very thin but has three layers. It makes a real difference; I was surprised because it didn't look as if it would work, but I suppose that's progress for you.
Hester - your poor DH. (I couldn't help but laugh, though. Sorry!)
RedRuby - I get lots of pains in my neck (and not just the DH!) It seems to have got worse the older I get. That crunch feeling is not nice, is it?
Will call back later, hopefully. Have a great day. all!
