Opera Telecom - Scam Ringtone/Game etc

Anyone had any experience of unsolicited charges appearing on their mobile phone bill relating to these people ? I've had 2 x £1.28 show up on my Orange bill and after many phone calls to ICSTIS, Orange, Trading Standards etc they seem to originate from Opera Telecom (or one of their resellers) I'm thinking of hitting these Opera people with a small claims court action to recover the charges and pay for my wasted time. Opera reckon I gave the authority via an SMS message 17/11/05 which is not the case as Orange confirm

I have had something similiar with Opera. They gave me the number
of another company who I could not contact (no reply to email or phone)
after numerous calls to Opera who told me someone would ring back but never did I went back to Orange. I was told that it would be investigated,
but did not hear anything from Orange. I rang them 7/8 days later and
was told that I would be refunded the cost of the SMS. (Although I have a
week or so to go for my next bill).
I was also given a number were I could complain which I am thinking
about doing because of my wasted time etc.
What response did you get from the ICSTIS? Is it worth me also logging
a complaint with them?

Yes I would register it with ICSTIS they seem fairly helpful and have been in contact with Opera (although little hard to understand the African accents of some of their staff !!) Phone 0800 500 212

The game here by Opera seems to be to throw up a bit of a smokescreen

Originally told that the Opera reseller was Get Media - given an 0870 number for these people who when I call it say they are not Get Media but PD Media and Vertigo 3G they supposedly have no record of me. Further call to ICSTIS who then are told by Opera reseller is indeed PD Media & Opera will look into it & call me back within 24 hrs - lady at ICSTIS said if they don't get back to her. Whatever way some !!!!!!! is going to pay me for this through small claims court - I've more or less wasted a whole morning on it :mad:

This is day light robbery. I have had the same £7.66 taken in a few days. I contacted o2 and they told me to ring opera telecom who are not trading at http://www.oxygen8.com

I have emailed this company demanding my money back as i have not signed up to anything in my life.

o2 and other companys should surely be able to put a barr on such numbers -- getting charged to receive a link to a site via sms ..

I just cannot beleive this


Can someone offer me some advice please on this matter..

I have emailed the company in question asking for my money back I doubt i will get a reply tho

I had the same problem - several charges of £1.28 on my bill. I called the 0800 number today which "stamford" gave in his reply. Very helpful chap has confirmed without any argument that I am due a refund cheque of £9 total.... my costs plus a bit more. All I gave him was my phone number and home address, and he says it will be with me in the next week to 10 days. Fingers crossed that it does turn up!!:j
