Maybe those figures are like the rest of the figures of this recession and go to prove its "middle england" thats being hit the hardest
There are also record amount of horses going for dog meat - many of them purebreds which cost the owners thousands to buy and many many more thousands to keep over the years
Its a sad fact that when people are finding things tight - luxuries (and pets are seen as such by many people) are the first to go0 -
Yes i agree but people having ago at me on here is not going to solve the problem. I care for my cats and the kittens she has had with alot of effort. I make sure they go to nice homes.. okay so yes i dont know if some have been put into rescue centres but 3 1/4 of the kittens she has had have gone to people i know which gives me comfort.
I agree suki that pets are the 1st to go, like i say i have rescued a huge amount of cats and dogs that people dump.. thats how i accuired (sp?) her.Theres 2 types of horse owner, a person who owns a horse and a horsey person

Although this is a very old thread I have just come upon it and on reading the discussion feel a correction is needed.
In response to the lady who says we breed these dogs because of the famous nutstown blood lines our !!!!! has, its rare these days and its not often you see a nutstown dog left!
In actual fact the Nutstown Kennel to my knowledge is very much still around and active and quite a number of the kennels in the UK have Nutstown behind them so it is not at all difficult to acquire this line - not least by going straight to the Nutstown breeders.
So if the only reason for breeding is to keep these lines going, then I would say don't feel you need to because the lines are alive and well in plenty of other places.0 -
Rachiee is clearly an animal lover and I think a lot of responses in this thread have been unfair.
Irish Wolfhounds are beautiful dogs and there isn't a massive surplus. The breed needs to carry on and it's brilliant that someone with clear knowledge of animals is doing it, rather than a horrible puppy farm.
Of course there are many, many animals in rescue homes which need loving forever homes. Adopting a pet would be the right thing to do for me, I am a loving person living with my partner, we have no children and would be willing and capable of taking on a dog with some behavioural problems. However, this isn't the case for everyone. For example those with small children.
There are also a lot of cats in rescue homes, which too is a huge shame
but it's unavoidable as long as incompetent owners exist. Perhaps there should be a license to own any pet, it would never happen though.
Sorry for the essay, I just think that poor rachiee has taken the brunt of some wrongly directed anger. Might as well be telling someone they're wrong to have babies when there are children waiting to be adopted all over the country/world, but that'd be a taboo subject, right?!0 -
Just reading this old thread again and its the same old garbage, yes people breed dogs so what. Why not worry about more important stuff than flaming a poster because they have dared to breed their dog, at the end of the day theres not much profit left when vet fees, inoculations ect are taken out of the selling price.0

I havent been on here in ages because of the foul abuse people on this forum think its 'ok' to give people. For the record I have all my cats spayed, I have just took another PREGNANT cat into my house and let her have her babies in my house, in my warm and fed her with money i have WORKED for.. i do apologise for doing this, maybe I should of just left her out there to stop the comments people are going to give me on this? I dont think so. Mother and babies are happy and I will be selling them for for £50 each, donating the money to Cancer Research and getting her spayed!
As for my dogs and the 'dreadful breeding' I am doing. That litter is now 9 months and they have gone all over the world including, Canada, Norway and Germany and are doing very very well in shows over there and I have a list of 42 potenital owners for my next litter.. shame on me for breeding good stock and improving a small gene pool?
Also whoever made the comment about the Nutstown line, they are no longer breeding or have 'several' kennels in the UK. They stopped breeding about 4 years ago and they only show the dogs they still have, they do not have stud dogs any longer which there for means the people who have the bloodlines they had need to breed to keep it going and its very sought after all round the showing world.
I do not know why I bother to be quite honest, and you wonder why nobody posts anything on here?
Good Day.. :TTheres 2 types of horse owner, a person who owns a horse and a horsey person

In all fairness, I see this OP more as having a second job - so something more 'professional' than the stereotypical backyard breeder but not the sole source of income, such as for a puppy farmer. I am, as everyone does, making assumptions - for example that her pups have normal scores for liver shunt - but if they are being shown and winning, it suggests that the OP is doing well.
Some people prefer pedigree animals. And to have pets from puppies, especially from giant breeds, which are very prone to genetic mishaps and pose considerable risks to others and themselves, if they have not been properly trained and socialised (due to their size).
So, as this is not going to change, I think the more ethical breeders - ones who love the breeds and want to keep them going in the healthiest condition possible should be encouraged rather than attacked.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

Why have you bothered to resurrect a thread that was last commented on at the start of april when clearly all its going to do is result in more people putting their oar in?What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
