I had this call too. I thought the thing sounded suss from the off because he initiated the call by making it sound as though I had won a holiday, but then went on to say I hadn't. Then when I asked him to email me some details about the offer he said he couldn't! Told him to call back Monday but I'm just gonna tell him to whistle for it.

they must have a lot of runners up because they're still ringing around 2 weeks later - i too just received the same call !

the OP with comp is here

hopefully they've only managed to harvest a few hundred MSE'rs details from it!

its a real magazine and im sure the OP had the best of intentions when posting it, but the website the link goes to is pretty dead - there's nothing on the homepage and only the old holding page for the comp exists

the website was only setup by an individual trading out of a semi-detached property in nottingham little over a year ago !

if you would like to contact the mag with your concerns and vent your anger that they are running competitions without fully vetting the vendor first, especially as they allow it to go on the Front Cover of their [issue 07] magazine then here are their details

Ive just received this call too but am just going to ignore it. This is the downside of comping, they get your hopes up and then you realise its a scam.

  • seems like the scam has now been updated. I suppose it's still the same guy but he calls himself Las McKinsey now. I got a call today saying I was a runner up in a competiton run by Andrex Puppy Points. I do clearly remember entering the competition so I guess that much is legitimate. Andrex must have passed on my details.
    He gave me 3 websites:

    fairways-club.net
    pueblo-evita.net
    alandaclubmarbella.com

and the cost is now £78 for 2 people. I couldn't quite understand his accent so I don't know if that's for 1 night or what. Perhaps it's not a scam as such but just some person who has invested in a time share apartment who is desperate to rent it out and claw back some money!
