about discount on "mobiles dot co dot uk"

I signed a contract for Vodafone for £15/month with £10 discount from this company. £15 is the price displayed on their website and there is another red text £10 discount for this contract. According to their website for the following explaination on £10 discount, I thought I only needed to pay £5 every month.

* The discount displayed in red will be applied directly onto your bill every month, meaning eg Dolphin £30 with £10 discount costs just £20 per month.
* This discount is independent and inclusive of any offer listed in the "Free Gift Selection" column, so "Half Price Line Rental" refers to half of the discounted price .
* The discount lasts for the minimum contract term (12, 18 or 24 months as applicable).

But when I received my order, there was no any information on £10 discount in the documentation I received. The contract to Vodofone is £15/month. I rang their order team and were told that £15 is the price after £10 discount already. In addition, I cannot cancel my contract because I inserted SIM card into the mobile phone despite the SIM card is not activited. I have unpluged SIM card from mobile phone.

I am not sure whether this is misleading selling. Is there any suggestion for me to solve the problem. I want to cancel the contract. I just received my order yesterday.

At last, if you sign contract to Vodafone in this website, it is impossible to keep your current number by number porting, be careful.

When dealing with this company, it is really just another offshoot of cpw - probably that says it all!

They do seem to have cottoned on to a new way to advertise so called "discounts" as another has posted about the same issue today here:

Seems a bit confusing - Vodafone and Dolphin 30?
Dolphin 30 is an Orange contract tariff - not Vodafone - which tariff did you sign up to?

Did you seriously think you would get a phone, 300 minutes plus a company "gift" for £5 per month ????????

It seems pretty clear to me from the site that the £10 per month discount is in the "Tariff" column and the amount you had to pay in the "monthly" column, with the gift in the "Gift" column.

Before you try to cancel, ask yourself a simple question "Can I get a better deal elsewhere"? And if you can get one for £5 per month, please post results here and you will receive the highest number of thanks on record !
  • The 'orange' bit looks to be just a generic explanation - not related to what the op bought.

Seems pretty obvious from their site what your Line Rental will be (when you click buy it tells you how much your rental is - with the discount applied) think you just got confused with the discount sorry :(
Wondering how to have a life & not rack up more debts...
  • Thanks for the reply above. This is my first time to sign mobile phone contract and used pay-as-you-go before. I learned a lot from this experience. Don't believe an unreasonable cheap price even if it seems to be.

Anyway, the price (£15/m for 300 mins + Free Phone) is not very expensive but not cheap at all, just a reasonble price for two years contract. If I were not misleaded by the information, I will not choose this company at all. I even cannot keep my old number by this contract with Vodafone.

You can always port the number even if it was with vodafone pay as you go. In that case you will have to port it twice.
Get the PAC for your PAYG number and port it to say Virgin Mobile(or orange). You can get hold of a free sim from virgin and after a few days ask for the PAC from virgin and port it to the vodafone pay monthly sim.
Does sound a bit fiddly but it is well worth it if your old number is important to you.

I wanted to thankyou a million times but its a shame that I can press the button just once :T
  • Thanks a lot for the kind information above. But the problem is that Vodafone doesn't allow number porting after the sim card is issued. The only time for Vodafone to porting number is when the contract is signed. If you sign a contract directly from Vodafone online website, then you have chance to input your PAC code to keep your current number when you buy the contract.

Through Mobiles.co.uk, there is no such option when you buy the contract. When the contract is signed, you will be automatically mailed new phone together with a sim card (a new number). Mobiles.co.uk also gives the following information on their website

    Vodafone

Please note it is currently not possible to port your exisitng number to Vodafone.

General speaking, the problem from two sides, firstly Vodafone has very stricted policy on number porting and secondly, mobiles.co.uk doesn't negotiate Vodafone for the number porting problem for his customers.
