Wanting to Buy a Large Item on Ebay-Can Collect but Seller wants p&p Costs?!

I'm just looking to purchase some furniture off ebay and have come across some that I like (well I think I do
) but the problem is that although the seller states that you can collect the item what he doesn't state until you contact him is that he also wants the P&P costs which are the best part of £50
Is he allowed to do this?
Is he allowed to do this?

Should of better explained that there are other sellers on ebay that sell the same stuff and charge approx £10 more so by collecting this set it would of saved me that bit extra.
Anyway, my main question was can sellers charge p&p even if collecting without putting it on auctions?0 -
I don't see how a seller can possibly charge P&P if you collect because there won't be any. Sounds like the seller just wants to make extra money. I would tell him you wish to pay the item price only on collection or buy elsewhere. Maybe notify ebay too.0

Ithink this seller is after a quick bit of extra cash! I would notify ebay and also email the seller saying you will only pay on collection and that you won't pay p and p because it won't be posted or packaged! Does the seller have the option of collection on the listing because if they do then it would be wrong that they are asking for p and p, if they don't have the option of collecting they won't let you collect!

Yes they can. This ebay page mentions it: http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/pay/methods.html#pickup And as it may be a hassle for the seller to have to stay in etc, then it is not really a unfair charge, in my opinion, but I do see why you are annoyed by it as it is expected that with no postage there is no postage charge. Is he allowed to do this? This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine:kisses2: Fiancee of the "lovely" DaveAshton :kisses2:I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine.

Thank you all for your help xx
Yes he does have collection as an option on the listing but I just don't understand why he isn't honest about the charges in the auction
Thanks for the link TD- I wouldn't mind paying a small bit towards the seller having to wait in etc. but firstly I would only ever collect at a convenient time for the seller and secondly he is selling loads of furniture and has an ebay shop- would this make a difference?
If I were to negotiate paying a bit extra for us picking it up then would it have to be added into the auction to cover ourselves? I can't see how asking for £50 off the books is legal
Sorry for all the q's

LOL I emailed him back about half hour ago to doubly make sure that I have to pay the p&p costs to collect the furniture.... I think I'll go with the other company now anyway but he still shouldn't be allowed to make that sort of money off books! Although he doesn't actually seem to be registered as a business- Can he have a shop with that many items at that cost without having to register as a business?Ms_Chocaholic wrote: »I was thinking of doing the same JLOM but I won't now in case he gets suspicious - looking forward to hearing what he says tho

LOL I've been through his FB too to see if anyone had commented but like you say, all transactions have been delivered.0
