Postage RANT

By contrast, and admittedly not entirely on-topic, I live in ROI, but am from England. Last year a relative sent a framed picture to me. She posted it at the post office in England, and it went normal parcel post, so I understand.
Two weeks passed, no sign of it. I called Royal Mail with the tracking number, they said it's currently in the Belfast Royal Mail facility, waiting to be returned to sender. They said, it's dimensions are larger than An Post, in ROI, will accept.
I asked them, can I drive up from my home in Waterford, 5 hours to the Belfast Royal Mail facility and pick it up? No, she said. It's flying to Heathrow tomorrow, and then back to sender. You can't intercept it.
What a pain. Thing that bugs me though, why did the post office in England accept it, if it's too big for for old An Post to accept?0 -
I am going on a rant - lets name and shame big department stores that charge extra for us living in Northern Ireland.
Today my rant is about House of Fraser. After going through the process of choosing what I would like, including going over the £50 minimum spend for free delivery I get to the last page to be told I am being charged for being in a remote island, highland or place.!! come on, house of fraser, get a grip. I am not paying £10 reduced to £6 for going over £50 for an envelope the size of video box.
Ridiculous. Rant over!!MFW 148 - Mortgage £121,000 1Jan11 / Mortgage £120,300 28Jan11 / £119,808 24Feb11 / £119,400 22 April11 / £119,089 29 May11 / £118,500 October110 -

Businesses choose their couriers - if they choose a courier which charges more to deliver to NI, they've actively chosen to charge their NI customers more - they've made a decision that NI customers aren't as important to them as other customers.
Some UK companies even charge more for delivery to NI than to the Republic of Ireland.0 -

Not a department store, but - The Book People offer free delivery to "UK" customers who spend over £25. If you live in the Highlands, Islands or NI, no matter how much you order, you pay £7 for standard delivery. Customers in the Republic of Ireland pay 8 euros - which meant that until recently, they were paying less for delivery than NI customers.
I used to order from TBP every couple of months. Now I might place one order a year, before xmas - or I might not bother (I didn't bother this year).0 -

There's usually a free delivery code to be found on the discounts forum. For NI it means the postage is approx half the cost as you get free postage but still have to pay the extra surcharge iyswim.0 -
