Relaxing of Stamp Duty 31st Dec 09

Hi everyone..

Sorry if this question has been asked before but I've had a quick look and cant' seem to find it.

I've just put my house on the market for £152,500 which is currently within the stamp duty holiday window..

But having read a post concerning something else it made me wonder..

'If' we sell our house prior to the 31st Dec does it need to be 'completed' by this date to avoid the purchaser from paying the stamp duty?

Or... is Stamp Duty applied on the date of completion?

Hope someone can help as I just need to get myself prepared 'if' it all might need to happen by 31st Dec

And yep I know this could be a big 'if' but you just never know..

Thanks in advance

Your purchaser will need to complete by 31st December to avoid paying Stamp Duty.

They might move the goal posts closer to the time though ... you can never tell. By then they might decide to keep things as they are for a bit longer.

Toss a coin in the air and call heads/tails to decide what they are likely to do by then.

:rotfl::rotfl:- That so made me chuckle -but how true!!

Thanks Doozergirl & Pastures New - I thought that might be the case.

Well I best get myself organised then because someone 'may' just want to come along and snap my house up before the 31st December!

    Then again... they may not...;)
