Yep, page 13 of The Times yesterday.

Looks like you need to visit your nearest branch

Got it. It's only the 3-cell battery in Staples though, so that would want replacing for 6-cell (or 9-cell from DX).

found the dell mini 10 (not the 10v) is a better bet at £270 (£300 for tv tuner model) if you WANT a HDMI port.
  • Didn't get on with the Mini 9 or 10. The NC-10 is the best in it's class imo.
  • I've got a Sammy and I love it - they feel so solid and the keyboard is great.

I had one for Christmas and absolutely love it. Have only opened my laptop about twice since I have had it. I travel quite a bit and it is so light to carry. It works brilliantly with my new dongle in Cyprus.

There was another thread about the NC10, in which it mentions the 3-cell vs. 6-cell question, and also the fact that the NC10 is a range of machines not just one model.

A better option is the Asus eee pc 1005ha. Slightly faster newer more power saving processor (N280 rather than N270) giving more battery life, comes supplied with a case and has the slightly faster N wireless. It is also supplied with a case. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/166570 Well worth the extra £24.66 IMO. Some features on the Asus people may not like though are the track pad is flush with the palm rest and it's location only indicated by a textured finish, and the click buttons are like a see-saw so you have to click left or right further out. Memory is easily accessible to upgrade to 2gb, but the hard disk is not.

Windows 7 is just around the corner and netbooks will be released with this installed (they are able to run it as well as Windows XP, if not better), and better graphics capable of HD video and more advanced games etc (Nvidia Ion) are just around the corner. Some say wait for these, but my opinion is you'll be paying £80 too £100 more for Ion and possibly £20 to £50 more on the cost of the netbook for Windows 7. Netbooks sales are outstripping laptops, so I doubt the market will flatten out prices when better models come out (pay more if you want more), despite the fact they are less capable than laptops.

It is possible to install windows 7 on a netbook by creating an install pen drive, see google for info.
  • Bought my daughter a pink NC10 (6 cell) for her birthday in May.

It's been excellent, quite happily runs Microsoft office 2007.

...It also gets her off the main family computer!!;)

My son now wants one for Christmas!

I just bought a Lenovo netbook, but it's going back - the battery pack sticks out like a growth on its backside.
I'm debating getting a HP Compaq 110c and putting Apple OS X on it.

    What are the speakers like?

I have Nokia Comes with Music and I am thinking about getting a Netbook so rather than using it on the phone I can make the computer more portable. There are other reasons to get a Netbook, but good speakers are so useful.
