Assuming they are all over 25, then the two non-dependents will attract a deduction of £7.40 per week. Who is actually on what, and what are their ages? As if son is on ESA and under 25 might make a difference.
£7.40 they get a bigger deduction than that.
I just did the entitledto check and got -
'Your full rent of £110.00 per week will be reduced by £95.20 per week because of your entitlement to Housing Benefit. This means you will have to pay £14.80 each week. The amount of benefit you are entitled to has been reduced by £14.80 because you have non-dependents living with you.'0 -
no only the sister has her name down I think so all letters etc are addressed to her. The others are just down as non dependents
which are on ESA and which on JSA?(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Not if their income is <£120 wk. (BTW I meant £7.40/wk each.)
You stated shortfall is about £55, which sounds like one @ max (£47.75) & one @ min (£7.40) non-dep deductions, possibly explained by the brother being inbetween c-JSA & i-JSA.0 -

Looking on entitledto it looks like the brother even though has been on JSA for 26 week is still down as working -
non-dependants earnings £382 or more a week
'Your full rent of £110.00 per week will be reduced by £54.85 per week because of your entitlement to Housing Benefit. This means you will have to pay £55.15 each week. The amount of benefit you are entitled to has been reduced by £55.15 because you have non-dependents living with you.'
The sister never probably asked the brother for his JSA letter.0 -

Did your friend inform HB when her brother started to claim JSA and provide proof of entitlement? If she did and has a receipt to prove it then she may be able to get the non-dep deduction amended and backdated to the date she informed them.
NB She might have to provide further proof of bro's income for the period(e.g. bank statements) as c-JSA in not income related, so (from HB's point of view) it's possible he had other income. They might have asked for this and not received it, hence the max deduction.0 -
Is ebay classed as income? I don't mean years of selling but say a few months?0

Looks like they have applied the maximum non dependent deduction for one of the non dependents. This is usually done if they have not provided proof of their income. Your sister needs to get a copy of the non dependent's benefits letter and bank statements for the last two months to current and get that in to the benefits department as soon as possible. They will then be able to reassess the claim based on the correct information. The minimum non dependent deduction per person on JSA would be £7.40 as previously advised.
If your sister has already provided correct proof of income for both non dependents and has proof of this, she can write requesting a reassessment and backdate for up to 6 months max."I've fallen down a hole" - said in best Monty Python voice-over.0
