I made curry tonite with turkey thigh and it's as tough as old boots.
Cooked it for ages on cooker (simmered).
It's rotten. Have I wasted 2 onions, mushrooms and curry sauce.
Any suggestions what to do with it??

keep it for day or two in fridge - spices might help tenderise the meat - then reheat and see if its ok? Ive made curry in past with turkey leg and it was fine. can you give more info? was it uncooked or cooked turkey? did you fry uncooked turkey for too long?0

blend it up add water and turn it into soup.
Turkey thigh is never going to be tender. It's the toughest of tough meats. Couldn't have cost much!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

It was 1/2 price out of ASDA.
Thought it was a bargain. Cooked onions and mushrooms. Then removed & browned turkey & then added mushrooms & onions & simmered for about 15 mins & then added curry sauce & simmered for further 45mins. It's soooo tough. Just wasted £1.24 Not a bargain.0 -
I gotta say - have used turkey thigh successfully in curry - but i usually use cooked as i cover the thigh in foil to prevent it overcooking when roasting whole bird. but - I HAVE used the thighs alone to make curry - and find it is best to flash fry the meat off the bone for seconds only then add sauce and simmer for about twenty minutes.0

add some pineapple juice if you have it and keep it in fridge - pineapple is great tenderiser - or if you overcooked it - keep it in freezer couple of weeks? you may well have to chuck it if other posters havent got better ideas. thigh can be tough - but can be used if you are careful not to overcook it. did you get it at asda? when i used to shop there i noticed the fillet of pork was same price as turkey thigh. this cut of pork cooks well on quick recipes! so worked out better value.0

I'm not sure about turkey thigh, but I regularly get turkey drumstick or turkey wing from the butcher. The drumstick is cheaper than from the supermarket. Anyway, I use me trusty ol' slow cooker. Leave it throbbing away all day and the meat just falls off. Then I open a jar of curry sauce (stockpiled from when they were 4p yes, 4p from Sainsburies) and add some fried up onion and whatever other veg I've got, and a good spoonful of curry paste, and it's not half bad.Howwwwwww Much????0

I regularly use diced turkey thigh from Asda and I've never had any problems at all with it.
Sometimes I just brown it in a saute pan with crushed garlic, chilli/paprika/cayenne, onions, peppers, mushrooms then add a tin of chopped tomatoes and a tin of kidney beans. Bring to the boil and simmer for 20-30mins OR turn it into a casserole in the slow cooker following any recipe for chicken casserole type things.
Often cook the turkey drumsticks as well but my only problem with those is all the sinews in them.0 -

I've had the same experience this week with Value diced turkey thigh from Tesco which I casseroled.
I refuse to blame my cooking! I've used this cut lots of times, I know how to cook it and it's usually lovely. What I did notice that was different this time was a huge amount of water that came out of the meat when I fried it off.
I rarely buy 'Value' type meat, except for this cut and the turkey leg joint. I expect this to be cheap because not many people (except those in the know!) like the look of it and there must be a tremendous amount of meat leftover from making all those turkey crowns/breast joints etc.
I imagine this batch is probably from the same supplier as the Asda one, knocking around in frozen form for god knows how long and has eventually deteriorated. Ugh! Very poor quality on this occasion. I agree, waste of money!
Don't be deterred, it's an excellent cut and turkey is very 'healthy' meat option. I'll be getting it from Sainsbury's next time, I find their quality far more consistent.0
