I go to vegas as often as I can and normally go from London with Virgin on a non stop flight.
I am looking at going next time from Norwich as I live next door, This would be with KLM/northwest.
Does anyone have any experiance of flying with northwest airlines from amsterdam via mineapolis I know the flight from Norwich to amsterdam is only 40 minutes.
Thanks

Hi photome
my sister has flown KLM (but not Northwest) on several occassions and has enjoyed it each time (the layovers in Amsterdam can be a bit tiresome though.
At one stage you could sign up for there frequent flyer club and pre assign your seat (after going to ww.seatguru.com first and picking the best one of course).
KLM/Northwest use Memphis as a hub airport as well - perhaps you could get a good connecting flight from there.
MTC
p.s. Have you considered Nor -Man - LAS on one of the BMI direct flights that go on a (I Think) Thurs or Sunday from Man - LAS and save a travel leg)0 -
I used NorthWest to go Las Vegas, London Gatwick - Detroit - Las Vegas recently. Couldn't fault the airline at all. Detroit was an amazing brand new airport. The only down side was the overall length of the journey. Unless you are young and fit, fly direct. The journey is a killer and really knocks the stuffing out of you, especially on the way home.0

Hi from a travel agents point of view, always go direct if you can afford it.
Connections can go wrong, so can your luggage and it does take it out of you having to change planes and hang around airports.0 -
One of thing, often when you switch to domestic flights in the US you have to pay for drinks or headsets on flights etc.0
-
also remember that you will have to transit at amsterdam which could be a couple of hours and again in minneanopolis so the overall journey will be pretty lengthy. I personally would prefer to drive to gatwick and get a direct flight, especially on Virgin as i really do like their service.0

Thanks for all the input.
It does make the journey longer but it does save the three hour drive back to Norwich, infact when you factor in the travel from Norwich to london both ways there isnt to much difference.
I dont know what to do now0 -
Hi,
I've just done a similar journey: Teesside - Amsterdam - Minneapolis - Las Vegas, 3 planes in total each way and the service was very good. It was NWA for the 2nd and 3rd parts. Very polite staff.
The only thing I didn't like was the length of time it took. By the time we got there (and back again) we had been up 30+ hours, but if you can sleep on the plane then go for it.
This was by far the cheapest option for us and have no regrets doing it. Just make sure you take something to read or do in the airports.
BTW, on the way back, we handed our luggage in at Las vegas and never saw it again until Teesside, and nothing was lost.
One very good thing with KLM/NWA too is that you can check in on line and choose your seats before you go, this means you can by pass all the queues, hehehe.
Hope that helps0 -
Depends when you want to go, but there are flights from Norwich to Manchester on Eastern Airways and then direct from Manchester to Las Vegas on bmi, not sure about the times or connections though.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

If you fly from london, its hard to beat the direct route with Virgin. with the Manchester option, don't discount the Airtours/Mytravel twice weekly flights unless you are over 6'. Someone mentioned Mytravel has a seat pitch of 29'', but I don't believe that to be the case with the trans-atlanntic plights. Food is as good as Virgin, (but no ice-cream with the movies), inflight entertainment is not as varied (fewer films etc), and planes are generally brand spanking new/fairly new A330's. About 50% of the time we have flown out with them, they have had the underplane camera on, which is fantastic for take off and landing.
..and the real benefit is price. Average of £350 for booked three weeks in advance, £250 for 2 weeks and £150 for a week ahead. Pay the car insuarance on top and it also include a car for your stay.0 -
I have looked in to the My travel /manchester option.
It seems they are only booking up to around Oct time, and i want to go early next year,
I priced the flight for 3 in Oct and when you add food, pre booked seats ,and the norwich flight it came to £1700 which is a lot more than I can get the klm flights from norwich for.0
