Just because the big tree won't be up...doesn't mean it you won't see tons of other Christmas decor ;) All the big cities go nuts usually decorating for Christmas so I'm sure you'll have lots to see.

I went for thanksgiving in 2007 and it was christmassy then.

The Ice rinks were out in Central park and Rockafella centre. The tree was up but not switched on, think it was happening the night we flew home.

There was a singing xmas tree with a choir on it down near Pier 17. Xmas tree was up in Sony centre.

The shops had xmas displays in the windows and lights on the side - Macys was done up like that.. Can't remember what store it was on 5th Ave opposite the rockafella centre but it had snowflakes on the outside that lit up.

Radio city had all the decorations up inside and a crystal xmas tree hanging up.

You'll still get a xmas feel at the end of November
I beep for Robins - Beep Beep
    & Choo Choo for trains!!
  • So there won't be a big christmas tree outside the rockerfella centre this year?

    Steph xx
  • Steph the Lincoln Centre is where there's no tree. I'd be really surprised if there's not one at the Rockefeller!!!!!

We went last year Nov 29 - Dec 4th. The Rockefeller tree was up when we got there but the lighting ceremony was on the 3rd. We tried to get to see the lighting itself but it was so busy and crowded we didn't make it. Saw it all lite up on the 4th though before we went to the airport.

IT was pretty festive anyway, big decorations about the city, and other trees etc, and just so much fun. But make sure you've got plenty of money as it cost a fortune (worth every penny though!!)

OP I've not checked the calender but you may be there for the big thanks giving day parade which I'm told is pretty spectacular in it's own right
  • They have already said the day it will be lit, 2nd Dec and its only 9 weeks away now so cant see rockefeller no having a christmas tree!

My OH and I are going to NY on 7th Jan and I was wondering what date they normally take down all the decorations etc as I was hoping they'd still be there?
