Been thinking of treating the OH to a nice trip to the big apple before Christmas.
Ive found a good flight on the 21st of Nov staying til the 24th in the Waldorf Astoria.
What im wondering is, will christmas be in "full flow" will the lights be on,windows decorated etc by then?

Hiya! No the lights won't be on, As I was going to book the last week in november but after much research I found out that the lights are only turned on the 4th of december this year so I'm going out on Saturday 5th of december for 1 week from manchester, flights were £790 for two of us with delta.
I hope this helps I didn't want you being dissapointed

Hi Steph
Thanks for the reply- going to be really nosey . . . where you staying? what price have you paid? feel free to tell me to mind my own though!0 -
I'm going late November and from my research no christmas will not be in full flow- all decorations up.
However most will be, all window displays will be done in nov etc.
The Rockefeller christmas tree is to be lit on the 2nd Dec this year, its pretty much then that christmas begins in new york but i still think its going to be festive in November and all the christmas markets are on then too.
I went last year in late Oct and Macy's were putting up there christmas lights then.
hope this helps.New York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.
No place in the world that can compare ♥ 2nd October 2010 ♥0 -

Hey stranger, hope you are well!
Just a quick note on the Waldorf - I would avoid. I know a few people that have stayed there, expecting some of the old grandeur that it's history suggests, and they have been very disappointed. There are better hotels out there.
Enjoy NY - I love it! xGone ... or have I?0 -
If you wait til around or just after Thanksgiving...the day after Thanksgiving is called Black Friday which is like the kick off of holiday shopping. Alot of sales too
Things are quite festive over there then so even though the huge tree won't be up yet..I'm sure you will see plenty of decor for Christmas
https://www.hotelscombined.com a good place to look for hotels.*If you like the advice I give...let me know by clicking the THANKS button*

I'm with you on that one, a few people I know have commented on how shabby it is getting, broken ,dirty fixtures and fittings etc.0 -
I've been in New York Twice in Early December (2002 & 2007) Also been in during the summer months and can say NY at Christmas far better experance than it was the time I went during the summer months. They really do go mad for it over there you won't experance anything like it.
It is rather cold though but its all part of the experance.
We stayed in the Radio City Apartments which were decent price for the location, Right next to the Rockafella centre and right round the corner from Times Sqaure. The Apartments are well layed out with a small kicthen area and the likes. High recommend you check them out. Though they are popular so they may be gone, last time I was there they were encouraging guests to book 11 months in advance.
The times I have been to NY I flew with Aer Lingus (twice) and Iceland Air. All from Glasgow, Can't remmber the Iceland Air price but the last time we went with Aer Lingus it worked out around £300 per person and that was via Dublin to JFK.
Hope you make it when the lights are on and such!0 -
I just came across this too...http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/09/03/citing-construction-lincoln-center-cancels-annual-christmas-tree/
