  • Thanks for all the great honest posts today.

Fay - I'm the same. No moderation. I don't remember ever thinking I'll just have the one! HollieG mentioned about not having an on-off switch.
I understand that. Perhaps we do though. That's the thing. Moderation for we addictive/compulsive folks could be trying to have an on-off switch which is neither off nor on!

Well - it makes sense to me if no-one else!

Good on you for getting out of the supermarket booze free.

  • Hi i am a newbie, i know i need to change this, but my resolve starts in the morning and ends by mid afternoon. I want to change but i know in myself i'm not 100% committed yet. I've been getting warning signals to cut back, but yet i'm still managing to ignore them.

Any suggestions to move myself forward would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

    Hi

Posting on here is a really good start - everyone here is dealing with cutting back or stopping completely.

Keep reading & you'll find this is a really supportive place :)

  • Thank you, i'm wondering if its necessary to stop completely or to just get to a sensible place again, like the average person with alcohol.

Tricky to say as it's different for everyone. However, if you've struggled to cut back before then the best way to approach it may be just one day at a time. That way you're not making promises to yourself that you might not then keep (making you feel worse & potentially triggering a downward spiral). It also means you can think over what you want to achieve & want you can achieve - some people on here would love to drink "normally" but know they can't so have stopped completely.

  • i'm wondering what to substitute it with, don't want to end up eating choc, treats, picky things as a distraction. How do you get the first few days under your belt without starting further bad habits?

A lot of people have found they eat a lot better when AF as they're not stuffing themselves with random food while drunk or recovering from hangover. I just drink loads of tea & water, I don't have replacements as such.

Tho, as I posted earlier, I have been to the gym this evening, which is great as if I open a bottle of wine when I come home then I can't do that.

ps.everyone, not only did I go to the gym but I was in the pub earlier, only drank coke & have an ignored open bottle of red in the cupboard :A
