T2GU, wow that was quick, time flew this evening! I hope you had a good evening?
I was going to bed but decided to watch that Horizon programme on alcohol on BBC iPlayer. It was very interesting indeed. Watching him getting intoxicated made me feel ill, like it was me that was getting drunk. And watching the after effects of the pills made me feel queasy! God, it's really not worth it is it when you look at it from the outside
His last comment makes complete sense to me:
"I have an uneasy relationship with this drug, because in order to not get into difficulty with it, I have to think, I have to be aware of what im doing, I can never, paradoxically, I can never relax with alcohol, I have to be on guard....what an odd thing to think."
"Is it really worth it?"
Interesting......
Hmmmmmmm :think:
Please discuss........ (when you've all woken up of course :rolleyes:
)
I thought it was worth it for years and years, and I kept testing that relationship. Alcohol always had the upper hand in our relationship.
However, having admitted defeat and surrendering to alcohol, I need no longer have to or want to drink at all, so we have a stable relationship, albeit at arm's length from each other.
That works for me.
Fight it and one will lose - accept it and one can recover and not drink.
One needs NEVER to drink again if one wants it enough. One day at a time.
The difficulty is that getting to this point of acceptance usually means having a lot of pain, chaos, mayhem etc. When you are in active (i.e. drinking) alcoholism, there seems no way out. It's a horrible place to be.
However, it doesn't have to be like that.0 -
