Problem with credit rating after house move
I've just moved house and was trying to get a new mobile phone contract with mobiles.co.uk. The application was rejected because my address does not match the electoral register - even though they asked for my old address as well (which is registered) and I was there 14 years.
I have told the council about the move but they say the register is closed for updating from August and will not be issued until 1st December. Does this mean I cannot get a new mobile phone contract until then? I've tried contacting the company, and others, to explain the situation but as all the credit checking systems are automated no-one can manually ensure that my old address is taken into account!
I know this is why it was rejected as I checked my credit report and they did not even get as far as checking my bank details, the electoral register did not match and that was it.
Can anyone help me or tell me if there is a way round this? I guess the same could happen with any credit that I might need to apply for!
Many thanks.

Have you tried to get a phone from other providers?
Mobiles.co.uk have a negative reputation on this forums, and until they improve significantly more i would advise you to stay away to begin with. Have you looked at any phones in shops on the high street and see what deals they do, such as Phones4U, Orane Shop, Vodafone, O2 etc.
What was the deal you were looking at buying anyway?Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

Hiya,
Not yet as I didn't want the same thing to happen again and get lots of failed applications on my credit history. The deal I'm looking for is a HTC Hero with unlimited internet for £25 a month on Vodafone. Mobile Phones Direct have this deal as well now, and when I called them they said that the application would fail if my address didn't match - even if my previous address did - and that I should wait until December when the new electoral register is issued. But this seems ridiculous to me! None of the high street stores are doing such a good deal which is why I've not gone down that route.0 -
Possibly go with a sim only deal rolling contract? I am not on the electrorol roll after moving addresses and I walked out of the Orange shop with a SIM which I used straight away.
T-Mobile are known to accept anyone with a bad rating on one of their solo sim only deals.0 -
You can often get away with doing 3 months on a sim PAYG, and then move to a contract with the provider as they don't reply on the report as much since your an existing customer. Orange are known for accepting this. Maybe vodafone would do too, although it would require going through them directly so any money you get back would be cashback websites like quidco/topcashback not places like phone4u etc.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

Orange will only upgrade from a Sim Only contract after 3 months, not from PAYG. Same with Voda. And by this I mean without further credit checks, you can upgrade anytime providing you have good credit history. Once you've had the Orange/Voda Sim Only for 3 months they will upgrade you with no further credit checks - better option for those with bad credit, and the Sim Only's are easy to get hold of.
Sim Only sounds like your best bet to be honest, as there's still no guarantee's you will get one once the register has updated? Doesn't sound like there's any other way around it..This thread has me so pumped, I headbutted my dog and we both screamed.0 -

Ah my mistake then
