  • You're doing great on the NSD. :j
Yes I find ebay watching quite addictive too. I've still only got one bid, but 2 other items have watchers so I'm fairly hopeful. As the goods were listed at 99p I don't think I actually lose any money if they don't sell (if I understand these news fees correctly).

    Cheers

  • Another NSD yesterday but I was so tired I didn't update yesterday.

Better today as I'm not at work but I will have to spend some cash today as the cupboards are getting bare!! DDs home with a stinky cold which is making her grumpy so I'm keeping out of her way let's hope she stays in her room for a bit longer.

Elsie - that's a good deal on Travelodge. I was lucky enough to book the London Bridge Travelodge last year for £19 a night for a family room. It was excellent value for money. I haven't had any luck with cheap London ones since though. Where are you going?

CBM - I think the 99p listings are free but I'm never 100% sure. I'm going to list a few more things this weekend and some more on Amazon.

We're having soup & pud tonight so easy and cheap. I haven't had any luck yet finding a cheapish room in Paris yet but it gives me something to do when I need a break from work!!

Because I'm not going to the shops very often I have more time at home so have cleaned upstairs til it's sparkly will do downstairs on Monday. DFW keeps me busy though - baking, researching etc.

Hope everyone's doing OK this month. It seems very long to me because I was paid on the 23rd December and not again until 29th January but so far so good.

  • Hiya Pbh55!
I'm slowly reading through your diary and wanted to say its nice to hear about someone else who has the same ups and downs as me! I would class myself as poor but happy and aged 52 (tho I feel 25!) I've taken early reirement on a meagre half pension aaaagggghhhh! so have to sort out lots of debts too
Anyway will catch up on your posts and good luck -oooohhhh! my first NSD today !
May you fill up the great clutterbucket of life and may all of your leaks be in cheese sauce:D

  • Hiya PCB

Good to hear from another golden girl!! How are you finding retirement? Do you plan working again?

I would love to retire but funds won't allow it. My OH reaches retirement age in April but he is going to carry on working.

We could sell our house, pay off the debts and but a smaller house but we don't want to do that just yet. So we are carrying on working. But I just love being at home like today.

I MUST get off this computer and go the shop!!!

  • just a quick reply from one golden girl to another! I love being at home and have gone into an "old style use up everything" mode as retiring this early had not been on the old agenda! I won't be able to work again but do tell your OH to keep working as long as he still enjoys the job!

    Hi PBH,

We are going to Chester for 3 days/ 2 nights and then on to Blackpool for the next 2 nights. We plan to visit Chester Zoo, Knowsley Safari Park, and Chester itself, and then obviously the beach and amusements in Blackpool. We have our grandchildren that week, hence the choice of destination. We did consider booking a caravan for a week, but that would have been around £500.!! So we decided this would be the cheaper option. I try and save something out of my housekeeping money every week, plus feed my sealed pot as much as I can.! We don't live the high life, but we will all enjoy the week, kids don't look for luxury, as long as they are fed, and have plenty to do they are happy.

By the way I am 58, and I also cannot afford to retire, but the plan is that when I am 60, then I will stay at home.:T

  • Have you had any joy with that room in Paris yet PBH? Each year my OH and I go away for our wedding anniversary (for one night) and this year its my turn to choose and I'd love to do more than 2 days in the New Forest with a B&B, and the chances are we will be DF by then, so we might be able to :T. So can I be really lazy and ask that you let me know if you come across any way of finding bargainous rooms etc?

Hope all is well with you and the other Golden Girls on this thread!

  • Hi Everyone

PCB - enjoy being at home all day there's more time for old style. It's all a bit chaotic when trying to do old style and work but now I've found you guys on here it seems more fun somehow.

Elsie - when are you going to Chester. I was there last summer and although it was work related I managed to get a day looking around the City and it's very charming. I expect your grandshildren will enjoy the zoo and Blackpool most.

CBM - I've been looking for hotels via Hotels.com on Quidco they were doing 10%. I don't know if you've ever been to Paris before but the rooms tend to be basic and the bathrooms minute unless you're doing 5 star. I will tell you when I book and if you're going after 1st April then I will give my personal review. Eurostar are also on Quidco (every little helps)! Don't you get excited when you write "we will be DF by then"?

Yesterday I had to go shopping so will update my sig later when I've added up my receipts. Superdrug had their Sanex bath products and deodorants on BOGOF yesterday and as I always use Sanex bubble bath I stocked up. I don't think I've ever payed full price. Also Somerfield/co-op had decent loo rolls 12 for £2.50 and Finish dishwasher tablets 60 for £5 so I had some great bargains.

I still haven't bought anything other than necessities. I picked up a book I want yesterday then the thought of having to confess on here made me put it back.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday everyone.

Hi Pbh - just catching up with your diary and you're going great! I know what you mean about not buying something because you'd have to confess it on here. It's amazing how truthful you become by posting on your own diary! It's a brilliant incentive - keeps me on the straight and narrow!
