Verified by Visa A total joke

I am on a rant with this tonight. I am fed up of getting online transactions declined by Nationwide, when the company also uses verified by visa.

As this system virtually GUARANTEES its me using my own card, coupled with all the details are in my name and address, there is no reason for my transactions to be declined.

I do use my card a lot, mainly into bookmakers sites. But how can Nationwide keep declining transactions when they can see they are to the same merchant that I have used many times, and it goes through this verified by visa nonsense.

Makes me MAD:mad::mad::mad: VBV is a TOTAL WASTE OF TIME

I have never had any problems with VBV, what I can say is, it works on your card number, so if any details are incorrect such as last 3 digits on sig strip, it will fail, so ensure all these are correct (although I am sure you have done this already)

I do double check the 3 digit number!!. What annoys me the most is that when I call Nationwide they say that "automated fraud systems" block the transaction.

These automated systems I presume take no account of previous account usage, as any half competent human looking at my account would see the transaction is in line with 100s of similar transactions I carry out.

But surely when a transaction is made, backed up by Verified by Visa, it should not be declined full stop. I mean when the announced the scheme is was hailed as being able to stop all card not present fraud.

yes, I understand what you are saying, but these are computer generated markers, which are removed when you call and verify it is you making the transaction. In a perfect world, the system would, and really should take your spending habits into consideration. On the other end of the scale, what if someone was to make a fraudulent transaction to the same website etc, would you be happy if the answer was 'we thought it was you, it normally is'?

I do hear what you are saying, and I wouldnt fancy a fraudster to empty my account. I guess I will just have to get to know the entire Nationwide fraud team by the end of this year. :rotfl:

*touch wood* I rarely get flagged as fraudulent, and I use my card most days! I remember once I called, got told my account was marked, passed me to fraud, she said hello yes I can see your card has been used in Thailand, I said ok, how much, she said about 2k, I advised I have NEVER had that much in my account, etc etc lol, she asked me to confirm my details, I did, she advised she had wrong details haha, how she got them after the CSA previously confirmed me is beyond me
  • Have had the same problem with my Barclays debit card which also uses VbV, seems to do it on any form of gambling sites (I use poker ones regularly) despite ringing Barclays and having it noted that i use certain sites regularly it repeatedly declined - days and weeks later so I put it down as a lost cause
  • I have had problems trying to set VBV up and have practically given up on it. The problem I have is that I cannot remember the info I gave LLoydsTSB 10 years ago, so it wont accept my answers.

I really need to phone the bank and sort it out but I don't use it very often.
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted:)
    I live in my head - I find it's safer there:p

Has VbV been out that long?

My sons account was flagged due to repeated debits from his account in Thailand, to a max of approx 1k. He does travel to Thailand regularly but at this time he was in the U.K. so thankfully due to Halifax for once having sharp eyes the transactions were stopped and the money refunded into his account, so luckily he didn't lose anything. As soon as they realised something was amiss they phoned to speak to him to check where he was.

    No lol

Its only recently they have started asking me to create the vbv security check thingy, but the info they are asking for is what I gave them approx 10 years ago for registering with phone bank.

Edit: haven't used phone banking since they introduced internet banking.
