Royal Mail are gonna do it.................

Well I have been officially told this morning that as of 24 August 2006, Royal Mail are going to be charging you for the size of a package/parcel as opposed to the weight, as they do now. This will obviously affect ebayers, because now postal charges are on the up, the bargains we once all sort after wont be the bargains they once were. For sellers, who's going to buy that second hand T shirt, when, with post charges, it'll be cheaper new in the shops
I'm back after a break :money:

Take a look there. A while ago they were sending packs out to help demonstrate.

I know - two price rises in less than 6 months and a bad service to boot!

I guess they've had to put the prices up to cover the cost of the compensation they have just been ordered to pay!

I actually think the Royal Mail is pretty good just now I haven't had a claim for over a year and most of my customers seem happy with delivery times. Charges are possibly a little steep but I still thjink they are not too bad.

My only problems are deliveries to BFPO addresses but I think thats the military postal system and nothing to do with Royal Mail!

I will reserve judgement on the new system but I have a feeling it might actually work out cheaper for larger for me??
  • To be honest, Royal Mail should thank their lucky stars they have ebay. Without delivering parcels ect, I guess Royal Mail would go bust lol. I mean with all the emails ect being sent, it's now the parcels that are keeping them in business.

You are so right! Remeber about 5-7 years ago when the internet had become mainstream, Royal Mail were in a right old state! Now when every one does their shopping online and Ebay is massive they are turning over massive profits! Hmmmm more than a coincidence! :p:D

Did anyone else that requested one of those free guage thingies find that they keep arriving? I put in a request for one last year as soon as someone posted the link, which duly arrived, as did another the following month, and another a few weeks after that...

I gave one to my neighbour who knew nothing about the new pricing in proprtion rates from August and have another put aside for a friend who can't get one at all but am wondering if I'll get another anytime soon.

What is going to be fun is the even longer queues at the post office - not only do they have to weigh the items but now they are going to have to measure them (and measuring 5mm thickness isn't easy - i.e squashed or non squashed packages)............... sheer madness. I understand it for large packages, but those standard A4 size its stupid.

Remember if you use an A4 envelope it's instantly more expensive yet is no more difficult to transport than a normal DL letter size (in fact easier in my view).

We will all be using those plastic bags where you use a vacuum cleaner to suck out the air and then hope they don't explode until we get them accepted by the PO.

I requested one, and it never came! So I requested another, and that never came either! So you've obviously been getting my share.
