Cunning landlady

Recently I have rent a studio through Sinclairs agent in bayswater. As it is an "any furniture" studio, I asked for a bed, desk and a wardrobe which is reasonable. After I paid the deposit and signed a deposit receipt, the agent agreed with my request, so I paid the money the day after. Cunning thing happened afterward! The agent called me the second day saying the landlady isn't willing to provide us with a desk or a wardrobe! So I asked what is the landlady willing to provide and the only respond I get is that the landlady wants a long term investment and is only willing to buy a bed. Gees! This is ridiculous! If she is looking for a long term investment, why the hell she is only willing to provide a bed? This is a very unhappy experience here and I hope you guys take extra precaution when you see "any furniture".

She is an evil, dishonest capitalist money-sucking landlady. I am sorry for your experiences...
Cheers!

When I asked the agent, he said "any furniture" means you give a request and ask for the approval of the landlord/lady. So we asked for a desk, wardrobe and a bed. After the request, the agent will ask the landlord/lady for his/her opinion, if he/she agrees, I'll pay the rent, security deposit and so far and forth. So I got an approval of my request then I paid the money. But after all the money is transfer(after clearance too), I got a call from the agent saying that the landlady isn't willing to provide us a desk and a wardrobe. I understand the landlady may not be looking for such furniture, but what I am mad is that why didn't she say it earlier before we paid. If she said that before the bank transfer, I'd definitely going to rent another flat.0

Did you get anything in writing? What does the advert for the property say?
We deal in writing or only accept voice confirmation from the agency in the form of voicemails on our phone when we know it is something we might need proof of.
It should not matter if she agreed to give you a giant bouncy castle so long as it was agreed to and you paid because you were getting one. Just proving it would be a hard task!0 -
It is in black and white in the contract0

The Landlady isnt being cunning at all. She simply isnt wanting to furnish a schemey basic flat to a premium standard.
I am not sure that what looks like the modest requests of this tenant amount to a 'premium standard'. It sounds pretty mean IMHO - and speaking as a LL, a good way to ensure a void and more LA / advertising fees etc in 6 months time or whenever the AST is up - it makes far more business sense just to get a few things from Ikea or similar.0 -
I know this isn't the point, but have you tried local charity shops or your local auction - you might be able to pick up what you need exceptionally cheaply. Or maybe even freeads?0

I've signed a thing called "holding deposit" with a term saying "the holding deposit received is subject to the following conditions being accepted by the landlord...." the following conditions includes the bed, wardrobe and desk with an approximate amount of 375pound. I am not looking for anything expensive, just found nearly the cheapest one from Ikea.0
