I've just had ANOTHER stand up row in the street!!!

Ok, so I've had a bad day and I'm bone-crunchingly tired and probably shouldn't have raised my voice in anger but it absolutely infuriates me when parents park on the zigzags outside our primary school.
It's in a very busy residential street, which is all permit parking, so parents need to park further away and walk to the gates to collect their children. I am so fed up with people who think that the rules don't apply to them and persist in parking on the zigzags, despite the school pleading for folk not to, in every single home-school communication!
Today, a mum was sat in her car, on the phone as I walked past. Grandma came up to the car with the child, so I quietly commented to her that the mum should not park there. I was met with a haughty stare and a retort that she was in the car. I said that it made no difference if she was in the car or not, it was still an offence to park there as children were coming out of the school and parked cars obstructed their vision.
The mum then leaned out of the car and started shouting at me that it was her driving and not to speak to her mother. I raised my voice and said that she was on the phone and that she should move her car. Several times! I had to walk away in the end before I really lost my rag - especially as the Grandma was telling me to calm down ()
Of course, no other parent backed me up!! They just smiled at me to show their support and rolled their eyes as this happens at least once every drop off or pick up time. A couple of years ago, the police had to be called when one driver threatened another dad who asked him to move his car.
Why do some people think the rules don't apply to them? It would be very different if it was THEIR kid knocked over by some tw&t driver who couldn't be bothered to walk a hundred yards!
I need a lie down

See this is why i am glad i dont have kids, it all seems far to STRESSFUL!!
On a serious note though, i can see where you are coming from, but you are always going to get people's backs up when you confront them like that, you should just let the school sort it out as arguing in front of kids is not nice.
I remember someone shouting at my mum once when i was a kid and it really upset me.0 -
Whilst I do agree with your viewpoint, raising your voice to someone is not going to help anyone, even if they shouted first.
It is an annoying situation, but it is not your problem. You would be better just to walk away, especially when there are children involved.
(Crossposted!)Gone ... or have I?0 -
OMG, I know what you mean. I live near a school and the sheer stupidity of some parents amazes me. They park across driveways so you can't get in or out and some are so downright cheeky that they park on peoples drives! What gets me as well is that some of them only live a block or two away and are too lazy to walk. Fair enough if it is raining, take the car but enjoy the walk on a nice day. No wonder obesity is on the rise.0

You have my sympathies, I live opposite a school and it is chaos at drop-off and pick-up time.
Every school newsletter asks parent to park considerately, there is an 'unofficial' one way system which some parents ignore, they block drives, try to drive three abreast when other cars are parked up, park on the zigzags etc. It is gridlock most days with other non-school traffic involved as well.
The police were called recently as a father kicked another car that virtually knocked him over as it drove on the pavement!!!
Most of the little darlings live within easy walking distance of the School.
I have never spoken to any of the offending drivers, I just give them evils!!A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.
Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.
one life, live it!0 -
One of my pet hates as well. I regularly walk past two schools and see this happen on a daily basis (the parking not the arguments)
I don't know why people think it is okay to stop on the zig zags as they are there for the safety of the kids. And it is illegal as well.
Was there not a Ch4 programme about this some time ago?
All these people who do it are just ignorant @rseholes beneath contempt and should not be engaged in conversation0 -

Now that would annoy me!!!0 -
I can really sympathise with you - our local school is a nightmare when its picking up time - cars double parked, parked on corners etc - also downright dangerous if you're travelling in the other direction as the oncoming cars (with children in the back) seem to have little consideration for safety & travel in the middle of the road, far too fast - I've ended up on the verge twice in the last 3 months and now just avoid the whole area at that time if at all possible! If they are parking on the zig zag lines every day, could it be reported to the police?0
-
Yes, why not, zig zags are a safety measure, park on them and get done. No-one on here would have any sympathy with a poster done for this.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

At our school, we have ample parking, but there are always parents (and it's always the same ones) who park on the zig-zags. The school often ask them not to in their newsletters, but they clearly think that the zig-zags are there for their convenience (so no one else parks in their space!). I can't believe that they aren't even the slightest bit embarrassed.
I think the only option, if they are ignoring the school's pleas not to park there, is to speak to the police.
Parking on zig-zags is just not on.0 -
people picking up their kids up near us park opposite a junction on a bend. or on the junction its self!! bloody idiots, i told a woman one day that she was not supposed to park opposite or on a junction and she laugh and said i'd made it up  i told her to go home and read the highway code. Why cant the lazy ******* walk, a few drive 200 yards up the road in giant farm 4x4's too.
someone blocked our drive to when they went to some after school thing, so my brother and myself parked either side and blocked her in. she waited an hour lol0
