Is Capital Returns Kosher?

I friend of mine at work was contacted - they got his credit card number and took £900 - yes £900 without his permission.

I told him to 1) Inform police - its fraud, 2) contact Trading standards- cos its fraud, 3) Write to his credit card co - they are equally liable -

He got his money credited back !!!!!!!!! - looks like the people with the power are the credit card co - best bit is that they were promising to write off his credit card debt!

Hi everyone

Being very naive my husband and i paid £995 to Capital Returns 11months ago to reclaim interest and other charges on our mortgage and credit cards. Very good salesman, we believed every word and he answered every question asked satisfactorily. DO NOT BE TAKEN IN BY ANY OF THESE COMPANIES THAT PROMISE TO RECOUP ANY MONEY BACK FOR YOU.
They promised our claims would be completed within 6-9mths. Within 2months
they passed us to a sister company ' CLS' . We started having concerns about 4months after a lack of communication and what seems to be a very long time having problems moving office so that both the companies were under 1 roof.
The Staff became aloof and unprofessional.
Ten months down the line they informed us that to deal with our claims they were forwarding our details onto another company who they have every faith in. I will not name this company at this moment in time. We told CR and CLS we were not
happy with this other arrangement and that we would prefer them to complete our claims on their 'NO WIN OR RETURN OF FEE' arrangement. Needless to say we are unable to contact them any more, phones down, website under maintenance. Recorded letters sent to both parties at old and new addresses remain undelivered.
We have learnt by our mistake, please take this as a warning, they can call themselves anything you like and be members of any regulated authority, but it means DIDDLY SQUAT!
Like someone said to me "you can have a licence to drive but it dosen't mean you are a good driver"

I think its about time the police looked at some of these as clearly some of these sales reps are telling outright lies to get money off people. That is fraud.

I am afraid that I take a very cynical view with anyone who calls me who I don't already have dealings with. I always work on the assumption that all cold calls are some sort of scam and will only do business when the call is instigated by me and not the other way around.

Please report these people to Ministry of Justice (MOJ)...Dont worry it doesnt have to be a long legal letter....what you have posted on here will be sufficient as this Company have been suspended (yet another!)

[29/03/2010] Hi: I used to work for this company and can i start by telling you, they are the biggest bunch of conmen going.
The company is run by the 3 muppets known as Roger Simpkin, Nick Simpkin and Dennis Hughes.
These 3 men are the ones responsible for taking all of your money and doing nothing with your cases, the reason nothing gets done is because all of your personal details are kept in their high security filing system (A cardboard box in the store cupboard) and nothing gets done about your claim, you may have read a set of terms and conditions but not before capital returns removed some of the clauses so they don’t number up correctly coz there are things in there that they don’t want you as a customer to see.
They will ring you up and tell you they have information regarding one of your credit agreements and believe u have been mis-sold, they get this information from a data sourcing company and pretend they get it from your creditors, they then ask you for £995.00 to take your claim on which as we all know nothing gets done. You may have had a mortgage from Black and White and probably had a call saying they work with Black and Whites insurers and they've been closed down for a fraud investigation (utter and complete rubbish) Black and White went into voluntary liquidation, this is another speil to get you to cough up, they also can’t write off credit cards, nor can they get your claim through in the timescale promised. Your money which you pay them is none refundable and they do take 25% out of any compensation if they do manage to get you some back.
They have finished all of their staff almost and not paid any of them and to top it off, The Ministry of Justice have suspended their licence to trade until they can answer some questions regarding the way they operate and unhappy customers.

Myself and husband received a phone call from the vultures at Capital Returns in September last year. We were told that Black and White Mortgages were now bankrupt and that we had paid excessive costs/charges when we had taken out a mortgage with them a few years earlier. We were at a really low point financially as my husbands business had collapsed due to the recession. We were told that we would have to pay an upfront fee of £95 then £100 per month all of which would be reimbursed with the compensation. All paper work was completed and returned. A number of weeks later, my instinct was telling me that something wasnt right. I tried to phone them on numerous occasions, phone just rang out, one day I got through, spoke to a 'receptionist' who told me that they were in the middle of moving offices and that she would look into progress of claim. I explained that it all sounded like a scam, and asked for progress report in writing, of course this never arrived! Last week we received letters from a legal firm to claim for PPI, we were never claiming PPI. Again tried to contact CR, phones no longer accepting incoming calls! Needless to say cancelled Standing Order. Kissed goodbye to £600!!! Angry is not even close to how we feel. Who do we contact to prevent this happening to others.:mad:

Can I just say that I too was sucked in by Capital Returns / CLS back in July 2009, and yes they have done nothing. I cant get through on the phone they dont answer letters or emails. I have now heard that The Ministry of Justice has now withdrawn their licence along with CLS and I am also told that Bank Smart which is another one of the con companies is also under investigation. No I have not had my £995 back and I have now logged a complaint with my credit card company (the card who I put the payment on) they may be able to help who knows its worth a try but they too told me that they have had many of these phone calls. So now I have also sent a completed form to the Financial Ombudsman. Like every one I cant afford to be out of pocket by £995. Ill keep you posted.

We have now been contacted by BANK SMART, apparently our address details have been passed to them by CAPITAL RETURNS / CLS.
I hope that is all that's been passed to them!
