Is Capital Returns Kosher?

I received a 'phone call last night from a company caled Capital Returns who told me I was owed some £8000 from a missold mortgage some years back. They require an up-front fee of £95 and some other short term charges. Is this normal, and can anyone tell me if this is worth pursuing or whether I being duped?

• Con Con Con, Don't be sucked in. If you think it is genuine tell them to take the "Processing" fee from your £8000.

• Do NOT pay anything to Capital Returns Ltd.
Don’t be impressed by the fact that Capital Returns are regulated by the Ministry of Justice. They probably aren’t doing anything illegal, they are just charging large sums of money on the chance of getting some, or probably no, compensation. And for doing something which you can actually do yourself for FREE.
Out of the blue, my father was contacted by Capital Returns Ltd and told that he may be entitled to £3000 due to a company he had used called Black and White, going bankrupt . He was then told he would need to make a payment of £95 and subsequently pay £100 per month for 9 months by direct debit. Thankfully my father was unsure about giving his card details over the phone and never paid anything. Since getting involved I have found out this:
If you are entitled to claim anything back, you can do this process entirely for free by going to the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) which was set up by the Government to help with these claims. After phoning their free phone number (0800 678 1100) the advisor told me that Capital Returns would be going through the FSCS for the claim anyway, but you are simply paying them nearly £1000 for the privilege.
Basically Capital Returns Ltd are a kind of brokers firm who do the ground work for you, but charge you £1000 when you may not get anything back anyway! The advisor at the FSCS told me that my father would simply need to write to them (FSCS) with the all details of what and when he had paid Black and White, and they would then send him out a claims form. Also when I mentioned the £3000 compensation that Capital Returns had quoted my father, the advisor simply replied ‘well I don’t know where they get that figure from’ (read into that what you will) but don’t think you are automatically entitled to huge sums of compensation if in fact anything at all.
I have found many web pages (mostly on here) where people have had bad experiences, but none, which in fact say the opposite. I think it’s unfair for companies like Capital Returns Ltd to prey on people in my father’s situation and especially in these hard financial times, begin to make them believe that they are owed huge sums of money so they pay the £1000 fee. My father was almost drawn into using Capital Returns as they phoned him on more than 3 separate occasions, luckily he didn’t pay them a single penny and has now gone to the FSCS for more advice.

As I am a new user apparently I cannot post direct links so here's the best I can do to tell you two useful websites:

This is what lead me to the FSCS and is worth reading:
mortgagesolutions-online.com/mortgage-solutions/news/1556454/warning-claims-advisers

And the website for the FSCS is simply:
fscs.org.uk
Anyway, sorry for the rather long post but I hope it helps!

BYE BYE Then
• Do not pay this company any money...They did employ 60 s/e sales reps and promised massive earnings and benefits. They dumped them all with many owed £000s in commission and refuse to pay up.They now cold call from an in house sales office.
They stated to some sales reps they are in liquidation then they are restructuring, to get out of paying money owed to people who worked hard in belief of the company!!!
There is no proof that this company has even won a claim yet for anyone.
It would be interesting to know what has happened to the many claims and fees submitted by the rep force who will no doubt be pestered by anxious clients.
There have been many threads about this company and the dubious backgrounds of the Directors Roger Simpkin,Nick Simpkin,Dennis Hughes.
Try to get hold of one of them......no doubt sunning it up on the back of taking fees without delivering the capital:rotfl: returns.
The MOJ need to close this lot and several others who are preying on indebted clients. See also threads re Black and White Mortgages and claims of Capital Returns to clients.
DO NOT TOUCH WITH A BARGE POLE
• Too right! Don't touch them at all! A family member of mine who worked there and earned them thousands in fees was "unexpectedly finished" when the commission was due! Then he found out that no cases are actioned anyway just put in boxes. The directors cannot be contacted and yes one of them is on holiday probably sunning himself as we speak! Surprise Guest probably does work for them as they do log into the site and have had threads removed before now! Be safe - steer clear whatever you do!
• PS They are also using the Black and White Mortgages data base information to contact clients now. Oh the tangled webs they weave ................
