im having problems with my avg 8.5 ( paid for version) virus protection. i update both my vista (home premium) security and AVG each time i turn my computer on but i keep getting a security alert telling me my virus protection is turned off. know matter how many times i try and turn it on nothing happens. i have contacted AVG help but they are saying there is nothing wrong with their security can someone tell me if im doing anything wrong or whether there is a compatability issue with these two systems.

Don't know, not my subject, just guessing but try turning windows defender off,
restart and see if that cures it.
I Run Vista and AVG 8.5 in one machine no problem.
I say again just guessing.0 -
They defiantly are compatible, as I have AVG 8.5 free and vista running, I get the same pop up as you every so often which I find is caused by AVG not loading before the security centre of vista does meaning it doesn't detect it.0

does that mean, student_84, that my virus protection is still working even though its telling me its not, if thats so how will i know if it really is not working has the security symbol does not go off.
Bob the saver, its worth a try, as i do all my banking etc online and dont want a virus attacking my accounts0 -
tried turning off defender bob the saver but AVG still wont turn on and still got security alert symbol on.0

it never worked when I installed it , got some vista error which thought about a solution which was to close it. I used Avast insteadSurvey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740

avg runs fine on vista
either your installation is corrupted or I suspect you have a nasty on your PC disabling AVG
install, update and full scan with malwarebytes (Free)
http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html
then uninstall and install a fresh download of avg
if it still does not work, it will need a proper look at.0 -
you were right eric. i ran malwarebytes a few days ago but it found nothing, so i went on micrsoft site and ran a free scan and it found a trojan, so i deleted the object it said it was found in put my computer in safe mode and im running another scan with microsoft again to see if it is still there.0

I hope the payed for version is better than the free one which is awful.
Avira / Avast for other free versions
Kaspersky if you have a Barclays account (get it free for on-line banking)
Eset / Nod32 if you want to pay0 -
i thought i had sorted it but today the dreaded security alert came on again so im running another scan. what else can i do?0
