Im sorry you find my post judgmental, I have never said Im perfect and believe me I have not always been a size 10-12 and it takes serious effort to maintain A HEALTHY weight. It means walking whenever possible, not driving, excercising for leisure, going to the gym, refusing food when not hungry etc. My size 16-18 mother knows she only has herself to blame, I have one donut and she will eat 6 in a sitting ( dad a lot worse, they are both self confessed gluttons) Additionally mums ended up with diabetes and dads fighting going to the drs to be told the same thing. Dads ankle took months to heal as he couldnt weight bear properly. The excess weight they carry has knackered thier knees and ankles so going hiking/ skiing etc is no longer an option for them ( excercise they DO like) and now they are desperately trying to excercise using a Wii fit we bought them ( good for them for trying) but they fear its too late.-its fair to say thieyll do an hour of wii fit then go to the chippy ;)Nothing will reverse mothers diabetes, shes only in her 50s Dads ankle took months to heal as he couldnt weight bear properly. Ask yourself how many people like my parents the taxpayer is supporting and you do have to wonder where it will end???? Excuse me for not wanting to go down the route of being ill to early- ruining my life, restricting what I can and cant do, judt because I cant stop eating WHEN IM NOT HUNGRY and costing YOU the taxpayer more in keeping me going.
I wouldnt stay skinny = healthy either, i know this as my v skinny OH has hereditary cholestrol problems- all the fat he eats gets absorbed into his blood stream and can kill him any moment, his grandpa slim as he was dropped dead at 38, OH can go the same way too. We have to be careful what we eat and drink, have stopped smoking rarely drink alcohol, refuse heavily processed meats etc. Again, this isnt easy, some days he kills for a Mcds or a portion of chips or a greasy sausage sandwich, once in a a while is OK, every day or even more than once a day as many people do, could kill him.
Im not saying its easy, but I dont know why overwieight people seem to suggest that its in some way impossible??? It clearly isnt
Well done on I presume your weight loss (since you infer you've not always been a size 10-12). However just because you managed it does not mean that everyone will automatically find it easy. And to some, yeah weight loss seems impossible and I guess that is hardly a motivation for many people. The problem in the UK is the fact that we spend all our time knocking people instead of encouraging them.
I think most people eat for emotional reasons and bad habits. Sure some are downright bone idle but that's not everyone but why let that get in the way of some good sweeping generalisations
Sorry but on any other board you get slammed for being judgmental but it always seems acceptable to be that way with those that are overweight.
As for the cost to the tax payer - shall we start on smokers and drinkers next? And those that injure themselves playing dangerous sports? The list is endless so I prefer not to go down that route.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife Louise Brooks

I think everyone is judgemental to an extent - dont you? I think we all have a little thing inside of is that does it. My dad could never understand why I smoked and always used to have a go about it, yet in the same breath would eat to excess and be unhealthy. I would call my dad judgmental, but thats only because he would be telling me what I was doing was wrong/unhealthy/ dangerous etc. All along he was right and just worried about my health and welfare. Likewise I worry about him. I love him and dont want him to end up in a wheelchari or whatever.
yes I used to be a size 14 -16, i had inherited this idea that "its ok you can have whatever you want and its fine" attitude from my parents, who are now paying the physical price for having whatever they want, and they have now realised that they have been wrong, and should have modertated themselves a bit more. I think you know that its not the case as I can see you are a dieter and are doing something about it, dont you think some effort is better than none?
Do you think there is a way of not approving without colluding? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
 This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0

I didnt remove any picture. No doubt someone was intimidated by it and complained to a BG Some people report things in the most stupid of circumstances:rolleyes:venus_in_furs wrote: »Ohhhhhhhh AsoluteBounder....how come you took the picture of the fat ladies down...scared you might offend someone?
.Who I am is not important. What I do is.0

I think English education is a waste of money in the UK. I didn't say all northerners were fat and ugly. I said the majority of porkers that I saw had northern accents, which is a far cry from what you accuse me of.venus_in_furs wrote: ».... but there is no need to say all Northerners are fat and ugly!!!! ...Who I am is not important. Anyway, they are going on holiday to relax and unwind...they dress the way that they have been brought up dressing i suppose. Its not how i or anyone i know would dress but i suppose from their backgrounds it is just normal.
It is just a small minority of people who choose to holiday in these destinations, i'm sure people realise that not all women in Britain are fat, chavy and ugly, just as we know that despite the rumour not all Eastern European women are stunners!! My grandad is Czech and i have been there numerous times and i see just as many fat ugly women with cellulite as gorgeous model like women! And believe it or not, even skinny models have cellulite...i was a model a few years ago and quite a few of the painfully thin models had a bit of cellulite.
If people believe all these stereotypes than they must be very narrow minded.
I'm a northerner too (Tyneside) and although I'm in my mid fifties I'm still the same size I have always been a size 10 and have never had a suntan (or cellulite) in my life.
There's good and bad everywhere not everyone is a chav up north.0

Well, maybe specific areas....i dunno. I suppose i am just a nice person although i know obesity is a problem i also know that targeting people will not solve anything.
Saying that, i do know what you mean, there are a lot of obese people, but all across the UK. It is a big problem (no pun intended!) but i don't know how anything is going to be solved. Look at America, they seem to be getting worse and worse and we are close behind. Some areas of Europe are catching up with us as the fast food culture spreads. I remember going to Italy and the food was incredible there, as i was walking round one day i saw an ugly McDonald's just plonked in the midst of all these beautiful buildings and wondered why anyone would rather have a McDonald's rather than the amazing local food."You dont need a weather man to know which way the wind blows"0
