Dealer servicing
Had my car MOT'd by local garage, but then had the service carried out at the dealer (apparently did not have to do this, but presumed I did to comply with warranty !!! Now I know different:mad:).
Passed MOT with no problems with local garage. Full service by dealer left me with a long list of problems, some of which I was informed 'would mean the car would not pass its MOT' !!
Informed them that it had just passed its MOT, so not to carry out any work on the car.
I have been badgered since with phone calls from the dealer informing me I should take the car in for the essential repairs.
As I got rather worried, took the car to my local garge, who checked the car over again. the 'essential repairs' are not required, apart from a brake hose, which needs replacing as it 'appears' to have been 'cut' !!!! AAAHHH. How can this have happened between the MOT and the Service !!!!!
I am rather perturbed to say the least

Well one way and the most obvious it that its been cut between the MOT and the service.:rolleyes:Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Main agents do this kind of thing all the time. We still take our 10 year old corsa to the dealer for a service (its actually quite cheap for servicing) and last time they threw up all sorts of things that supposedly needed doing. Needless to say we don't get the repairs done by them, instead going to a local independent garage who then tell us what actually does need doing and charge us a lot less than the main agent for the work.
I'm not really sure about the brake hose but it sounds quite a simple and cheap repair to me.0 -
Obviously the dealer has found work that needs doing that is not covered by the warranty..........
Get your independent to repair your brake hose - sadly you can't prove anything...
Meanwhile, check out www.r2rc.com or you won't have any choice at all in the future.Genie

Thanks - but I was close though!
I've been checking the site - it seems that folk are a little relaxed as if it won't happen - as in "Oh they are bound to renew it"........ but there is alot of sympathy from those on high for the poor dealers, so nothing is cut and dried.
If it isn't renewed, not only will everyone be forced to go to dealers for servicing under warranty, but alot of technical info will be held back from independents leaving people no choice other than to go to the dealer with other problems too.
I don't want to hijack this thread but wouldn't it be nice to get a 'big mouth' behind this, it is a year away before it runs out and really people should be yelling now...!!!
Big mouths I have in mind now are, obviously, Martin Lewis and Quentin Willson.
I'll try and start a thread about this but don't have time now - I'll let someone else do it... please... thanks....Genie

Thanks for all your replies. I am having the brake hose repaired by my local garage. The dealer will not be seeing me again after this fiasco !
I wish I had known that I didnt have to take it to the dealer for servicing to validate the warranty, but then thats my fault for not checking.
I hope that they do not change the leglislation, and force us to use the dealers in future.0 -

But any work has to be done to manufacturer standards.
What car is it anyway most will be out of warranty by the time you need an MOT. Most warranties are 3 years.0 -
The only thing I use the dealer for is buying my car. Luckily OH is a mechanic and MOT tester so when it needs servicing he buys the parts at trade from the dealer (hence my recent first service - dealer price £250, own price with book stamped £25), does the work himself at work and then stamps the book.;)I am not a complete idiot - some parts are missing;)0
