Are you sure you have the answer? Lacquer or varnish are liquid when applied and harden quickly - a cork mat could not absorb what is already a hardened surface. Do you know how they have finished the table? is it a hard surface or just a wood treatment like oil or wax?

Aliasjo has the answer. Do you prefer the expert advice of another company's delivery men? Don't do anything to the spot any different from the rest of the table.
