In February 09 BT wrote to me to inform me that they were going to change my call plan from LUS (Low User Scheme) to BT Basic (I did not apply, they informed me in writing that they would be changing things automatically and it would commence in 30days time). It still has not occurred (we are now Sept 09).

So all I have done since February is chase them about when they are going to transfer me.

I have had no end of lies from telling me

1) It would be completed in 30 days from February
2) Under no circumstances would it not have been completed by End May
3) It had to be completed by end July as LUS would then cease
4) I was on the migration listing to be migrated end July
5) It would be completed as soon as possible

To date, nothing has happened and I am still on LUS.

On LUS it is not possible to have an ISP
On BT Basic it is possible to have an ISP

I can not apply for any ISP until my plan is changed from LUS as when I do any checker system it will know my call plan is not acceptable and informs me I can not currently have any ISP :(

I have informed BT of this issue and the fact that I need (for work purposes) to be able to get on line from home to work and that I should be compensated for the loss of work due to their incompetence to do something in accordance to what they told me in writing.

They told me they would not consider compensation as I could simply change my call plan myself to a normal plan (where I will be charged the full monthly line rental, BT Basic is not the full monthly line rental fee).

I would like to know if anyone can recommend an ISP that is not too expensive - I am considering Orange (who I have used before when I was on a normal BT calling plan) and wondered what Tiscali was like??

Any thoughts?

Whose the cheapest one out there?

Are there any providers where I could tell BT to "go jump" and go with someone else entirely? Not a cable provider like Virgin.

  • hello yes there are companies that you can move to. in terms of cost ,without trying to complicate things, that may depend id your local exchange has LLU or not. LLU means you can get a better value package. you need to check that you are not in any contract with BT,the new supplier would take care of everything.

I am the official company representative of BT. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. • Hi JuliaB
Re an ISP recommendation. Firstly, whatever you do, don't go anywhere near TalkTalk. They may be cheap but in their case you certainly get what you pay for! I got so fed up with them that I moved to Zen Internet, who consistently come at or near the top of customer satisfaction surveys. Zen's customer service is absolutely first class (and they are in England). The drawback is the cost. If you're looking for a cheap ISP then Zen may not be right for you but I suggest you check them out.
