Umbrella + Pen on Easyjet?

Options
Hi guys,

I haven't flown with Easyjet before, does anyone know if you are allowed to take an umbrella and a pen in your hand luggage? Not sure if they would be considered 'sharp objects.' And would a standard handbag fulfill the requirements regarding size? I don't want to be charged extra and have to put my bag in the hold.

I'm flying out on a conference so I just need essentials. Not taking hold luggage.

Thanks!

A hand bag is fine , you can take bigger bags as hand luggage , a pen is fine too , not sure about umbrellas but guess a small one is fine . easyjet dont have a weight limit for hand luggage , just a size one , it has to be able to fit in overhead lockers

It's getting it through airport security that's the question.

    No mention of umbrellas. :)
We could all learn a little something from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.

I think both would be ok. Pens for sure, but I've never tried taking an full sized umbrella on. My pocket umbrella has been though lots of time.

I have however had a roll of cellotape confiscated before now "becuase it could be used to bind people's hands". The irony is I also had a cat-5 cable and a kensington laptop leash, but they were fine....

I have taken a small brolly in my hand luggage through various airports and as someone said it's not the airline it's the airport security who decide what's dangerous. Pens are not considered dangerous although you could do more damage with a steel pen that with a pair of tweezers in my opinion. If I was travelling hand luggage only I would take everything out of my hand bag and make sure no nail files, excess make up etc Don't forget anything liquid including mascara and lipstick needs to be in a clear plastic bag and the container has to be less than 100ml, they will take a half full 200ml container off you in some airports. Also you have to be able to get everything in one bag and be able to lift it above your head to get it in as hand luggage.

  • My handluggage got pulled over recently coming back to the UK - the 2 offending items that needed to be examined?

A huge chunk of lead crystal (a vase that someone had given us and I dare not risk putting into the hold) and an umbrella. The vase had to be unboxed and unrapped (took about 10 minutes due to all the bubble wrap) and the umbrella was thoroughly checked (thinking about it, someone could quite easily hide something like a knife in the internal workings of the brolley - or even have a james bond style one!). The lead was so high in the vase that the machine could not see through it apparently.

So although ok, it might mean they stop you to go through your bags.

...and some of them make up their own rules.

I had a roll of non sticky tape confiscated by the happy souls at EMA Security.

I questioned why, I was told that I could use it to tie up a member of staff.

Obviously I could use a scarf or a tie to do that.
