council tell landlord to increase my rent by £175

Have you checked with the council whether, under the deposit guarantee scheme that you have for this current property, whether it is transferable to a new place? Do you have a relative or friend who can loan you it?
This site provides good information on how to reduce domestic expenses in all areas of costs, including a budget tracking spreadsheet, etc, so plunder it for advice on how to reduce your outgoings.
Good luck with your request for new furnishings and carpet with the landlord, because while a landlord is obliged to replace broken items, there is no legal obligation that requires them to refurb a property at the tenant's request. Redecoration tends to be the responsibility of the tenant should the landlord consent to them doing it.
There's plenty of information on the internet about how to deal with the damp and mould that you've aggravated by drying your laundry in the house. This one is aimed at landlord's but its still handy for anyone to understand what causes it and how to prevent it and treat it.

If i was able to save for a deposit I wouldnt be in this in the first place
..what planet are you on !!!!!!
On a planet where I've rented for 20 years, had to work 2 jobs to get where I wanted in career/life and often had the problem of having to move and having no money to do so.
Ranting at me won't fix your issue.
It seems to me that at heart your issue is that you either want to live in a cheaper property or you'd like a nicer property for the money you're paying out. Your issue isn't with the LL - he can charge what he wants for his property and he'll either have occupancy if the charge is realistic or it'll be vacant if it's not realistic. If you don't want to live in his property anymore then you have to find a way to get a deposit to move.
As others have said, you may qualify for some Govt help with a deposit. If you don't then you have to weigh up your options from either a) borrowing it in some way or b) cutting your budget back. The old style moneysaving forum is good for the budgeting side; their advice once helped me feed two of us for a month on £30. You could also look to ebaying some possessions to raise a deposit or doing some of the ideas on the 'Up your income' board. Try looking at freelance sites to see if there is some evening work you can do from home.
There are lots of practical options which you can look into, but one thing's for sure..incoherent ranting about posters, the LL, the benefits system etc etc won't solve anything.“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”

LHA is based on room entitlement - so you could live in a one bedroom property and get LHA for two beds.
This LL has obviously worked that out - 18 months after the event and is scampering around trying to get it sorted.
If the OP is happy to live in a one bedroom (and that is her choice) - she can take her allowance elsewhere.
This might be the sensible option - other than staying where she is and getting the LL to upgrade certain things, doing a deal whereby she receives £15 a week and he gets more money for the same property with the same tenant and no void (apart from the one weeks rent whilst she switches)
Personally I think she should move and get a better property especially as a one bedroom with a daughter will not always be as comfortable as it is now.
The system is there to help BOTH parties and remember the nasty LL's you talk about also pay taxes which contribute to the process and in some cases they pay a lot more tax than the people who are complaining about them.0 -
i am sorry if i had upset anyone, i know i am angry and that wont get me anywhere..this is not an issue that just came up, but since july, and sincethen I had been to the council, benefits officer, citizen advice bereau, housing officer, back and forth, to date, they have not even given me/or my land lord any answers, everyone in the council gives you a different answer. I dont have a bad landlord, he is a good man, never troubled me, and I am good tennant too..thats why he wants to keep me as a tennant. The council, even didnt tell me my options, because the people working them dont know them, so they keep saying we waiting for the manager to answer..
I wrote them a long letter asking to give me a definite answer, and then I can start planning my life accordingly.
Everyone here has been more the helpful and supportive..Now i have a clear picture, and that helped me a lot in writing my letter.
I guess until i get that definite answer, there isnt that much I can do.
Cant thank everyone enough for their time and thoughts that they have generously given to my problem. total strangers thinking about my worries..thanks a million.
Its not the end of the world, on way or the other we (me and my child)will overcome this..0 -
thats the spirit mimi - as soon as you start to do something else to make you feel in control you will feel less victimised - i imagine that is how you feel just now ?
a final thought - your local councillor is also a great resource to fight your corner for you - ask the council who that person is and then ring them up - you need a practical ally on the ground with you (not literally!) - they can ask questions that you cant - they can go into LHA/HB office and demand answers
good luck0 -

you know what Clutton, you are 100% right, thats exactly how I feel..I am much more calmer..its all obstacles and lessons that we learn in life..and we have to overcome it..and get back things in control..
I still dont think its fair though :-) !''' but since when was life about fairness..(another debate...I am very lucke to have a secure job and a roof over my head..I have freinds who lost their jobs..must keep it all in context.
I ll give it my best shot, state my points...and if needed will call the counicllor, never did that before...I sent my letter to housing toaday..will keep everyone updated with the progress, someone some where like me will for sure make use of all the ideas and advice in this thread, even the ranting at me was good ..like a wake up call from a good friend to be get a grip and be focused.
thanks a million..:T:T:T...0
