Card changed by bank

Hi
Wondered if anyone had come across their bank changing their credit card without consent or prior knowledge. We had a BOS Visa card and without any warning whatsoever were sent a notification that the balance had been transferred on to a Mastercard. The account nos etc had all changed, but we had absolutely no knowledge of this until the new card arrived through the door! Does anyone know the legality of this because, as far as I am concerned the bank have acted on their own, and we have signed no document to allow this to happen. Surely the Visa agreement is now null and void and a new agreement would have to be set with Mastercard (which has not happened), therefore does a contract actually exist? Have the bank acted outwith their powers or is this another of the banks hidden clauses? Surely they cannot take silence as agreement i.e. if the card is used it is taken that there is agreement. I cannot fathom this one and would welcome any advice on this matter. Another point is that the original agreement was signed before 2007, the Mastercard arrived after 2007, does this smack of the banks trying to rectify a situation by the back door, as we have all heard about credit card agreements taken out before 2007! If someone could give me some advice I would be most grateful.
Thanks

Fiona

Does the Mastercard not fit in your handbag, does it smell, does it fa*t, what's the big problem with the Mastercard?

Natwest are going to change my Maestro card for a Visa debit card, do I care no,
    Visa is easier to spell.

Visa is being phased out as a credit card and in the UK and being replaced with Mastercard.

Unlike for debit cards it the other way round.

DO VISA KNOW THIS, does this apply to ALL banks?
  • I'm pretty sure that OP has been informed normally with all the ''rubbish'' paperwork that comes with statements.
I can't see the problem with the change either to be honest. As long as the card works and the limit has not been changed it should be seamless.

    I hope so lol

Before you used to get an option to whether you wanted visa or mastercard.

RBS Group, Abbey, HBOS, Halifax LLoyds TSB & HSBC dont issue Visa credit cards anymore only mastercard.

Im sure the other banks are looking to go the same way.

    Unless you know anything different.

you took out a credit card account. the bank can and do change your card over from visa to mastercard. bank has tie in with mastercard now as apposed to visa people have been getting changed over last year or 2.

Yes they can change the card over. its not to your detriment. there is no difference in the cards apart from looks. protection is very similar in both cases.

there is no new agreement to sign and isnt got anthing to do with the unenfrceable credit ageements which is a load of nonsense.

Enjoy the card. prefer mastercard anyways from a chargeback POV:P

If the card issuer you were applying to offered both, maybe. This is entirely specific to individual card issuers. Visa credit cards are not being phased out.

Not so, please present your source of information.....
