Something doesn't add up, if his claim was sanctioned due to why he left his last job he would still be entitled to hardship payments of 60% of the normal weekly amount |(I think its a 40% deduction but not 100% sure) and if that was in December any sanctino would be finished by now.

Can you get him to make arrangements with the Benefit Delivery Centre that you speak to them on his behalf. Don't the hostel have someone that can help him.

If he has a social worker that doesn't hel pthen make a complaint, my mum works for Social services adn is always spending time helping people sort out benefits etc.

Surely, even if he can't actually live at home, he could eat there most days?

Absolutely. Got to be honest, I find the OP's reluctance to be more helpful a bit strange.
  • He needs to go to CAB at once. You can go with him but not for him as without his presence they won't be able to call up DWP and find out what is going on.

I dont find it strange. -No one here has any idea how this mans behaviour manifests itself.

He might abuse his mother? He might be a thief? He might be a risk to her and others? He might live miles away and neither of them can afford transport. etc. Mum might not be able to afford to feed him, there are all manner of reasons that could be. I think that the OP might have actualy allowed it to cross her mind to feed her son at home, after all she is asking for advice on a forum! Why is everyone so suspicious- at the end of the day we dont all need to know everything- its the OPs choice what she is comfortable sharing.

I think it will be difficult for mum to chase referrals on, he is an adult and sas a result is entitled to have his data protected.

Personally i think that he has probably left a job and is not getting JSA due to that OR that there have been some documents not presented on time etc.

OP do you have a good relationship with him. Do uyou think hew would allow the data to be shatred freely between social worker and him. Truth is SWs dont really have a lot to do with benefits. Indeed if the adult doesnt WANT to see the SW then he absolutely doesnt have to.

He is here now - I have fed him - but he does not live close by - there is only so much money i can loan him - and without money he cannot get here to eat everyday - I have a responsible job - I am not a bad parent - I asked for helpful advice - I did not post this to be criticised - to those that have offered advice thankyou
However I do agree something does not add up about his claim being cancelled - i have asked him things like - did you turn up for interviews/signing on etc he says he has - however am not too sure if he is telling the truth - i am just being a worried mum - seeing my son turn to skin and bones - he is going to make phone calls tomorrow with the assistance of his Social Worker - and then go to CAB if that comes to nothing - please remember as i said he has MH issues - he is not a criminal - was not working whilst claiming so was not making a fraudulent claim

It would help us to help you if we had all relevant information. Your posts are vague at best. People have asked many questions and so far you've not answered them. People are willing and happy to help but need all the pertinent information.

Oh and no one has accused you of being a bad parent. I hope that you manage to help your son get to the bottom of this.

Did he do what most people do and think that because they are getting no money for a certain time that they didnt need to sign-on?

That's how most claims get cancelled after/during a sanction IMO.
  • It is starting to look like the fault my lay with him - maybe just down to naivety or pure ignorance - I am trying my best to help him - and I will "drag" him down to job centre to try and help if need be.

    Agree totally lynzpower.

People do not need the ins and outs of why the son cannot stay with the OP, and can offer advice without having every last detail of what is going on, particularly when the OP has said there are reasons she doesn't want to go into.

The main advice is regards JSA and as others have said, it seems strange that the claim would be stopped without good reason.

Appreciate that it's not possible for your son to stay with you OP, and that it would cost a fair bit to have your son coming over regularly, so what about doing an online shop of basics and sending them direct to him - something like asda or tesco? If your son isn't managing and the social worker isn't helping, can you speak to someone higher up [with your son's permission]? How about going to the job centre with your son to try and at least straighten out his JSA claim?

A tesco online shop delivered to his hostel seems a good idea, at least he gets the actual food then as opposed to buying junk/phone credit or whatever else he might purchase. Consider cereals/UHT long life milk for easy ''meal'' options (he is of student age so cereal is a meal at any time of the day) that he will not have to cook as he may be put off by food preparation?
