lazymoezy, you need to be brutal with your prices on ebay, people want to buy at the lowest end of the market and you may only get a fraction of the cost of it.

Second hand but modern furniture (ie not antique) sells badly, the auction I go to often has modern pieces from Italian designers with original prices as high as £16,000 that go for less than £1000.

Ooh, where's this? We're about to move house and I have been instructed that we need a new dining set :)

I agree with Soolin's last post... you have to be realistic with pick-up/collection only items as you are selling to a very limited clientele.

This is especially the case with furniture as people are very unlikely to impulse buy a table (even less so with a 3 figure price and a reserve).

I've bought quite a few large furniture items off eBay, but I've been put off many others who do not give clear descriptions/dimensions/weight of the goods (so I know that I can get them in/on the car) or do not say where they are located (eg only say 'London').

If you've got a new table coming then your going to have to bite the bullet... either accept what you can get for it (£200 doesn't sound that bad?) or risk further loss with more eBay fees & the possiblity of it being damaged as it knocks around your house/garage/shed for another week/month/year???

    Best of luck

I've seen some of that 'Italian Designer' stuff and it makes DFS sofas look positively distinguished, artistic and refined!

If your kitting out a replica of Saddam Hussain's palace its ideal, but mostly it looks like very expensive tat!

My table was bought for £800 a year ago, we got the price down as the actuall price was about £1000, so, selling it for £200 is ok? NO WAY! even £300 isnt enough but would consider as theres no space to keep it, new tables coming in a week or so.

It is second hand, but can easily be sold as new again, only the chairs could be told that they have been used, we placed cloth ontop of the table so there isnt even ONE scratch. Anyways, I would put up a lot of items on auciton and a shop window, that will maximize the number of ppl seeing it.

btw where do you get £16k tables for £1k?

    Thanks for the comments,

The furniture I see is at auction houses usually from re possessions, it is usually very nice stuff as if it was just normal high street stuff they don't even bother putting it in the auction due to the prices it fetches. There is a list of auctioneers by region on the LH side of this page:

    http://www.ukauctionguides.co.uk/areaprot/blank_page.htm

You have a table you paid £800 for, ignore the RRP as that is just a front to get you in the shop, I think £200 is an exceptionally good offer, if you had asked on here before listing I would have suggested you would get no more than 20% of the original purchase price.

Really though it depends on how eager you are to get rid of the table. If you can afford to hold out for more then why not put it into storage until you get the price you want? As long as you have all your photos available you don't need to have total access to the table again until it is sold.
