I actually made a trip to Aldi recently just to pick up some fruit and vegetables, their produce is really great! It's so much cheaper than big supermarkets but seems better quality :)

100% agree with this, shopped at my local Aldi for the first time the other week & was amazed at the quality & price of the F&V, cheapest I've seen anywhere - even beats the greengrocers & market round here! Brilliant quality too, nice big juicy grapes £1.20 a punnet, really sweet & crisp apples less than a pound a bag! And it all lasted a lot longer than the stuff I get in Asda. Very impressive, will be shopping there regularly from now on.

One thing I have found with the big supermarkets, is that the F&V sold under their value ranges is no different in quality to the regular stuff - I often buy Asda Smartprice apples (when they're Golden Delicious, my faves!), kiwis & grapes, and Sainsbury's Basics bananas, blueberries & strawberries & they're all just as nice as the more expensive ones, just a bit smaller fruits or a mix of 'odd' sizes, which makes no difference at all to the taste or nutritional value, but as I eat a lot of fruit, it's a big difference to my wallet! :money:

  • Totally agree! I think it's the temperatures they store things at. The amount of times I've seen huge chunks of ice in with the "fresh" veg is crazy! The only things I get from there now is spuds and single onions. Awful!

I got a load of fruit and veg from tesco recently, a couple of the items were good, aubergines were lovely as well as being really cheap, so were the cantaloupe melons. Other stuff was not nice at all, the spring greens I bought were tough as old boots even after long cooking-the waitrose ones are lovely and tender even the essential waitrose ones. Sainsburys are ok too but local store has a limited selection. There is also a massive Turkish supermarket, formerly a Woolworths and while their stuff isn't organic most of it is local produce, clearly lower-intensity farmed, and while sometimes a bit odd looking tastes delicious. It often tends to be cheaper than the supermarkets too xx
