    YEP!!

....Years later..... No change to Tesco F&V:

Recently bought 3x 2kg bags of carrots on offer (online shop). When the food arrived that night, I gave one bag to a friend and stored the rest in the cool kitchen and had planned to used a second bag a couple of days later (bulk cooking).

Next morning, I went to the kitchen and noticed one bag was already out of date and the third bad had only 2 days left until expiry (I had stated on Tesco pickers notes, that I wanted freshest/longest dated items because they would be in storage)!

The bag was damp inside and carrots were slimey with white fungus everywhere. I tried to salvage some, but ended up chucking ALL of it away (both 2x bags).

You know when you've planned/get excited to cook and you're looking forward to the results...?

    Yes, I was hopping :mad::mad:!!

But then calmed down after I spoke to customer service, trying to put the CS person in my shoes and he apologised (in a way that it made you think that THIS CS has heard this a number of times). And without prompt, he immediately refunded the cost of all the carrots (all three bags) and delivery charge.

It really put me right off buying food online/instore (I had similar problems in the past with instore food items) I then asked him what could be done to stop this from happening again to other customers, his reply was that he'd tell the appropriate people.

But it makes you think: if CS staff are at the receiving end of customer complaints and they often buffer the feelings of disappoint customers. How much aggro must they face/ low morale must they go through, before Tesco act on sorting out such problems of 'Tesco Quality' - and not for a quick buck/profit but REAL customer loyalty?

*cough* Sorry guys, moan is out of my system now. :o

I use Tesco fruit and veg every week and its fine although I too wonder why the carrots appear wet.. I remove everything from its plastic wrapping and store them in those green bags that you can buy from Wilkinson for preserving fruit and veg they are only £1 for loads and I wash them out and reuse for ages,I've just used the last of the salad stuff I bought last Saturday and I have carrots in the fridge that have been there 2wks they are fine I just looked. I also keep my bananas in the fridge , a tip I learnt was buy unmarked ones then wrap them tightly individually in foil , they don't go brown or speckly but stay firm the way I like them... oh and another tip if you actually do your own shopping (I'd never buy fresh stuff online) I always rummage down and fine later date packs , the top ones are always short date, but thats the same for everything , take packs from the back the dates are sooooooo much longer..

I agree, tesco F&V is poor quality and goes off quick.

tend to buy mine from sainsbury now as no greengrocer in my local shops, (and butcher about to close this week, co-op went december 2011). :(

With this weather the carrots prob 'sweated' in the plastic bags, i have found this when buying the large bags of basic carrots in the past... now if any fruit or veg i buy is pre-packed i take it out of the packets straight away...

Mr T... is general pants now anyway.... on lots of things.... and it is now showing that customers have had enough, and leaving in their droves

Even Mr T's loose carrots go wet after a few days.... I can't fathom that out at all

i gave up buying tesco f and v ages ago, swapping to riverford f and v boxes which keep for a couple of weeks generally. i do however buy strawberries on impulse and get yellow sticker veg in tesco sometimes but only if i am going to eat them that day.

I thought it was just me being picky but I agree, their F & V is probably the worst quality I've come across, so don't waste my time going there. We only have a Morrisons in the village so thank goodness their F & V is always first rate, keeps well and tastes good. I go to a market stall one a fortnight or so but only shopping for one and it's 8 miles away so probably not cost effective, but can combine it with a trip to Asda where the fruit is sometimes dubious but the veg is always okay.

I tend to buy veg as I need it as I find it doesn't keep very well no matter which supermarket I get it from. In my experience supermarket veg only lasts as long as the cheap veg I buy from the market.

I do shop online (Asda) but I don't buy fresh stuff because I got sick to death of everything arriving with a short date, I've had a few things turn up that were use by that day! I buy tins and bulky stuff online but go into the shop to buy fresh stuff so I can get the longest date.

No Tesco around here, so am unable to comment on F & V, I use Lidl or Morrison's. Both seem to be good quality. Co-op is a joke with the prices

No markets or local greengrocers / butchers etc around here either

Have to agree with most of the above. Did an online shop at Tesco last week for the first time. Fruit and veg was extremely average, most of the bananas were black and the average size of things like aubergines were minute!

    Never again!
