Either i am storeing fruit and veg wrong or what i am buying seems to be poor quality.
Did my food shop on friday felt really chuffed with myself when i had only spent 33.42 out of my 60.00 budget.
As usual i used tesco's as it my nearest supermarket and there prices are quite good.
most if not all of the fruit and veg i have bought has spoilt already the spuds have grown brocolli went yellow, carrots and parsnips have gone rubbery and started to mould (i could go on with what i bought but i would be here a while) to top it off the one craveing i have is strawberrys, i bought some from local tesco express last night sell by date of the 10th pulled them out just now as really fancied them to find them covered in a furry white film (yum not)
i store most of my fruit veg in the fridge as ive watched my mother do this for years and she can get hers to last a week or more (she uses sainsburys and waitrose) i dont store bananas or spuds in there as its too cold for them
is it just myself that finds they have this problem with tesco? and where really is the best place to be buying fruit and veg if you are looking for it to last more than a weekend

I had my Tesco delivery on Thursday and had exactly the same problem with strawberries last night - dated the 10th but off by the 7th!
Tesco fresh stuff is never great, I have often found myself wasting food because it just doesn't keep. I tend to try to get veg from a local greengrocer, and stick to what's in season (strawberry cravings aside!) so that it lasts longer. Root vegetables are best removed from the plastic bags and stored in papaer bags I think, although I never actually get round to doing this!0 -
the brocolli certainly shouldn't do that. I bought mine from Lidl nearly two weeks ago and stuck it in the fridge. I'm using it tonight and it still looks lovely.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

are you making sure everything is taken out of the plastic bags / cartons?
and put newspaper or something on the bottom of the salad drawer to absorb the moisture
i buy tesco F & V and potatoes esp keep for weeks and weeks before getting sprouty !
broccoli does turn quite quick i find no matter where i buy ditto for cauli ,so i buy frozen and steam it0 -
I agree with you fizzle,I always find their bananas are rotten in the middle when they are green on the outside, potatoes always start sprouting after couple of days and strawberries, don't bother yuk, furry before you get them home.I have stopped buying Tesco F & V,much prefer Asda.Debt at highest £102k

I find that Tescos fruit and veg is fine, although soft fruits, like strawberries do go off quickly, but thats true of all supermarkets in my experience. The worst shop ive found for fruit and veg is Morrisons, no matter how i keep it (cupboard or fridge) it only ever lasts a few days!!!!0

l have to agree.l have complained before but never recieved a reply. l would take the whole lot back !!!!! l was reading somewhere a couple of weeks ago about how old "fresh " fruit and veg actually is when we buy it, shocking to think a lot of it is already 2 weeks old.0

I must admit I have found most of my fruit and veg from Tesco's keeps just fine, have found that since I switched to organic (for most things) I have less problems with freshness as well.Weight loss since 01/08/07 - 72 lbs:j0

Soft fruits are likely to go off if they are not local. They will have been packed "ages" ago and then transported, freighted (air) and transported again. So not only are they not fresh, but they've been bumped around which would have led to bruising and then rapid deterioration.
For this reason, I tend only to buy soft fruit locally, when it's in season. Either from the farm shop or PYOWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
I find Tescos Fruit and veg to be the worst of all the supermarkets around here. If I shop at Tescos I'll get my fresh stuff elsewhere as it's so bad it's not worth wasting good money on.2009 wins: Signed Saxon CD, Solar Torch, Drumsticks, Priest Feast Tix, Watch, Hammerfest tix :beer:0
