CHAPS payments

Options
Hi

Hope this is the correct forum for this :)

I have requested a payment from a company for some work I did via CHAPS and they sent the payment at 9:02 AM yesterday morning and the payment still has not appeared in my bank account?

I am with the Halifax and tried calling them to see where the same day payment is and I could not get though (Massive queue)

I have seen the conformation that the money has been sent so I am just wondering how long this same day payment takes :p

Do Halifax have any known issues with crediting them that I am not aware of.

I have had chaps payments fail in the past because the name used was different to the name on my account (transferred from savings account in old name, to bank account in married name) - could this be the case?

Generally it should not take as long as you've waited - they take a couple of hours.

Are you sure the company sent it via CHAPS and not via BACS ?

    My thoughts exactly.

How much did it cost you OP?
Payments are guaranteed to arrive safely and securely, and cost only £25 each.

In that case you'll be due a refund if you're 100% sure you've provided the correct info. Just for clarification ;-

    CHAPS payment
CHAPS (Clearing House Automated Payments System) is a method of sending usually high-value payments (for example, to buy a car).
Payments are guaranteed to arrive safely and securely, and cost only £25 each.
To send a CHAPS payment you'll need the receiving account name, number and sort code.
The funds will arrive at the destination bank on the same day if we receive your instruction before 1.30pm on a bank working day.
You can also receive funds into your account by CHAPS transfer. We will credit your account with cleared funds the same day if we receive them before 4pm; otherwise the funds will be credited the next bank working day.
The sending bank should quote your account number and sort code.
Without these, or if any incorrect details are provided, we cannot credit your account and may return the funds to the sending bank.

I have seen CHAPS payments fail due to bank incompetence (only when coming from HSBC).

    Dated today?
  • Find out who cocked up.

Halifax will be able to tell you exactly when they received it and why it was posted today rather than yesterday.
